Blessing of Deskari Question

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

So, over the weekend my playgroup and I noticed a difference in the wording on the Blessing of Deskari , and I'm wanting to make sure we're correctly interpreting it.

Every other Blessing, the wording for adding dice to a check reads "Discard this card to add X dice to any check." Sometimes with caveats, but the part of the text that's the focus here is "add X dice to ANY check"

We noticed on Deskari, the wording reads "add 1 die to YOUR check" and "add 2 dice plus the scenario’s adventure deck number to YOUR check"

Are we correct is interpreting this to mean a Blessing of Deskari can not be played to add dice to another player's check?

Example:
Player A is attempting a Combat check. Player B CAN NOT play a Blessing of Deskari to assist Player A, as the wording implies that Player B can only play the Blessing of Deskari to add dice to Player B's checks.

If the wording says "your" check then you are correct. It cannot be played on someone else's check. And playing a Blessing of the Gods to duplicate it would still cause it to be on your check and not someone else's.

[EDIT: Remember that Wrath contains blessings for evil deities like Deskari and Baphomet. They're corrupt and invoking blessings from them doesn't always bring good things to everyone.]

Actually, I know absolutely nothing about the Pathfinder game world or it's Deities, so had no idea Deksari or Baphomet were Evil. I guess the Cultists should have been a HUGE clue though.

Knowing that now, it certainly makes TONS of sense.

I know nothing about the Pathfinder game world either. Drawing conclusions just from the cards, Deskari seems like a selfish jerk. :/

That's one of those cards I'm glad we read closely, though, instead of assuming the pronouns would be in the same as they always are. One quick scan was enough to think "okay you must've misread this, it's too good by itself."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

No problem. A lot of the card game players aren't actually RPGamers. So the background of Wrath and how it relates to the world of Golarion is just fringe text. Deskari is described here in brief format. It's a demon deity. And as a sidenote, demons are Chaotic Evil (generally) while devils are Lawful Evil (generally). I have to laugh when one of my players (Organized Play) always sighs when Blessing of Baphomet comes up on the blessing discard. It's a demon lord of minotaurs ... not Mooby, a lovable cow (idol).

My Adowyn's deck is 4/5 Blessings of Baphomet at the moment. I'd say he's pretty lovable. <3

The Corrupted trait on the blessing is also a pretty good hint that you may not be dealing with the god of kittens and rainbows.

Exactly who is that god in the pathfinder universe?

Mooby, the lovable cow.

(...Actually probably Shelyn, though)

Lalaci is the empyreal lord of rainbows, relaxation, and shade; he "believes that everyone's inner nature should be a similar mix of action and restraint, placid adoration and righteous scorn." Sounds familiar to me, though maybe more for full-grown cats than kittens. :)
