not 100% clear on if bomb discoveries tagged with an asterisk do bomb damage as well? seems a little overpowered if it's doing both, but I can't find any definitive answer.

I'd look at other ones with * first. You will get your answer quite quickly.

i am still new to the class. but bomb damage does go up every few lvls no mater what type of dmg it does but then again it may be like smoke bomb... >.>

so maybe it does fire dmg but curses the target that is hit?

It very much does damage and then curses. As smoke bombs do. .it's an added effect. One you have to wait 12 levels for.
