So I've always known that the Advanced simple template gives +1 CR for +4 to all stats and +2 natural armor, but what about being an Azlanti? They're +2 to all stats across the board. What's their CR increase? Is it still +1? If so, why would you want to be Azlanti when you could be Advanced instead? Or is the Advanced only for monsters? For that matter, do Azlanti even get the +1 CR for the stat bonus? As per the Race Guide rules that's +18 racial points (Flexible plus four Advanced stats). This makes them "Monstrous", but there's nothing mentioning CR.

It's a simple template so many say its monsters only. But it is a really low CR I might have advocated +2 but azlanti is broken down in race builder is closer to a +3 which is maybe not fair. Some say use a CR +1 but their entry says nothing of CR. So if it works within your narrative for the pc to be an azlanti let em.

I'm thinking more NPC than PC. I'm looking over some old stats, and for them to work, the PC would have had to be Azlanti, but there's no mention of it. Like, one human sorcerer I found in a PFS scenario had 33 point buy. The CR was +1, but still. Just looking for verification more than anything. That said, not all of those scenarios get looked at that closely when it comes to editing (for instance a fighter that's 8th level with a belt +2, yet still somehow has the elite array stats).

Templates are designed to allow a GM to modify a monster or character to create interesting opponents for the players. They are not supposed to be options for the players. As such they don’t have to be balanced against each other.
The whole CR system is only a rough guide not an absolute science. Applying the same template to different monsters or classes can result in widely different power levels. It’s main purpose is to figure out how much experience points to give out for an encounter
The pureblood Azlati option allows you to create a NPC that is more powerful than a standard NPC without being totally overwhelming like an advanced human would be. But the real reason to use the pureblood Azlanti is because the character is actually a pureblood Azlanti.
