How many marbles and caltrops come in a bag? How many can be removed before it can no longer be used for its original intent?

Two pounds of marbles are required for the listed effect. Strict RAW has no listed effect for fewer, but a reasonable house rule would reduce the DC of the check.

This is abstracted, likely intentionally. Unless you're in a marble-shooting competition (look out for that Chuck Brown guy), or trying to bum a d4 off your character, this would fall under 'handwave until you start abusing it'.

Really, marbles and caltrops just seem like good ammo for a keneticest.

Well, since you're going to go and turn them into countable ammo ... (grumble) this is probably why my GM just abstracts our ammo use in our homegame, as long as we actually carry the stuff around.

Go to a toy store and count?

Caltrops would be a bit more difficult.

64 marbles in a 2 lb bag. Source
Though I wouldn't present this to a PFS GM as "proof".

As for caltrops, no clue, though I'd assume around half or a third that amount.

You could easily use large jacks as a stand-in at said toy store. They're pretty close to caltrops - certainly close enough for guessing weight.

I think caltrops could be considered comparable to jacks in both size and shape. So a trip to the toy store help with an estimate for those as well.

Edit: Darn that ninja and his caltrops large jacks. ;)
