Quick question: using the power of Besmara's Tricorne on a check does not] add the swashbuckling trait to that check, correct?
The would be very helpful with Jirelle's ability to reroll dice on checks with the swashbuckling trait, but I fear that combo doesn't actually work.

Rulebook p.12:
Play Cards and Use Powers That Affect Your Check (Optional).
Players may now play cards or use powers that affect your check.
Players may not do things that modify a skill unless you’re using that
skill, and players may not do things that affect combat unless you’re
attempting a combat check. Do not add traits from these cards to the
check; for example, playing the spell Aid on a check does not give
the check the Divine trait.
Using the Tricorne modifies a check, and doesn't say to add the Swashbuckling trait.

And that's only one of the roles (Pirate Queen). It's the one I went with though, and I've got no regrets so far.
Early on, I found Eyepatches to be excellent at getting a small boost to many checks, as well as also giving me the Swashbuckling trait. Though again, only one item per check, so it wouldn't combine with the hat.
