Sorry, but are you saying that one character can attempt a combat check and one can attempt a divine combat check? Plus in the "or" section it also states a character can use melee, does that mean the character can use melee combat or would it be just straight up 'punch him in the face' with your melee skill (which at melee 12 would be pretty tough for any character to do).
I too find the wording on this card kind of confusing.

Keep in mind that unless the check you are attempting is Combat, you aren't making a Combat check (and thus are making a non-Combat check). This is true even if the check is a check to defeat a bane (monster or barrier).
There are 6 checks to defeat listed. Each character has to attempt a different one of those 6 checks. So if your group is 3, your group will need to attempt 3 different checks. The options are:
Combat 16
Combat 16
Divine 16
Melee 12
Stealth 12
Fortitude 12
Other than the two Combat 16 checks, the rest are all non-combat checks. So, a non-Combat Divine 16 check, a non-Combat Melee 12 check, a non-Combat Stealth 12 check and a non-Combat Fortitude 12 check.
So if you choose Divine from the checks on the Worldwound Cadre, you are making a non-Combat Divine check. Depending on who your character is, you might also be making a Wisdom check or a Charisma check, depending on where the Divine skill is listed on their card and what other skill it refers to.
I hope that helps.

Wrath Kyra also has a pretty neat trick for dealing with Undead Companies and Demonic Platoons, using her first power.
Yeah, being able to roll your divine + 1d8 for *any* check to defeat a bane with the Undead or Demon traits is pretty awesome. Stealth 12? Think I will do that by BLINDING THEM WITH MY HOLY RADIANCE. (Not the sword Radiance thought, that's different).

Well it is stealthy in the sense that it was "holy" unexpected.
