Skalds Vigor and Strength

Rules Questions

Just making sure. Is my friends PC gaining 2 fast healing or 1? I'd like to make it fair for him.

Does the feat give you the bonus from the boosted attribute (so plus one, then more later) or does it give twice that because that's the amount given by the song?

Attribute boost or modifier boost?

When talking about stats the term "bonus" almost always refers to the actual number you add to the dice roll, not to the score itself. I would say he gets fast healing 1 (until the song upgrades at 8th level).

That was my thought too, but some searches revealed some (in fact a slight majority) may feel otherwise.

I don't have a huge issue with it now. Fast healing on a round you have to maintain, meaning a minimum 2 round investment and it's limited by rounds per day.. fast healing one or two who cares.

But when it's 2 or 4? 3 or 6? Party wide? I'd like to know.

I figured it meant bonus to strength, not till, especially because Skald's Vigor kicks in whenever you use raging song.

song of strength wrote:

Song of Strength (Su) At 6th level, a skald can use raging song to inspire his allies to superhuman feats of strength. Once each round while the skald uses this performance, allies within 60 feet who can hear the skald may add 1/2 the skald's level to a Strength check or Strength-based skill check.

With that interpretation you could argue that the song of strength raging song would give you a fast healing of half your skald level. Yes, that's _almost_ the same (4 either way at 8th level) it scales slightly differently above that.

Besides, inspired rage gives a bonus to strength, not strength checks (except indirectly), so it just makes more sense to me.

Haha well I guess that song gets some use then. So you think at level 20 it would give (with another feat) fast healing 10?

I wrote this on my phone, and I didn't notice that it says "till" instead of "to roll" as I intended. :P

After I thought more about it, it ONLY matches at 8th and 9th level. Before then it is 1 point higher (+3 instead of +2 at 6th & 7th) and after that it grows faster (+5 at 10th & 11th, +6 at 12th & 13th, and so on).

Actually, no. I don't think it should. I think it should be 2 from 1st-7th, 4 from 8th-15th, and 6 from 16th+. Just if you go on the interpretation that it's bonus provided to Strength rolls/checks/whatever, then it would stand to reason that it would affect ALL raging songs that do that. Otherwise, they would have just stated Inspired Rage, instead of Raging Song for the Skald's Vigor feat.

On a side note, I think it would also be helpful if it specified morale bonus granted by raging song, because then Totemic Skald comes up as a potential issue... but of course that doesn't answer what happens if the Skald also has the Inspire Minions mythic path ability, or anything else that may increase that bonus. But I digress.

Yes. I agree. I just wanted to make sure. He's been doing 1 a round. Should be 2 then. I won't have to worry about the strength song as he traded it out I think. Phew.

So. This will be a pain in my ass when he goes group wide buff later. But hey that's his job as a player is to make me cry.
