Hey all.
So my wife and I are just getting back to society after several years off. and have a few questions about our high level characters.
the last thing we did was each GM the Good Bye Lantern Lodge mod before the cut off. (4-21) and assign them to our lantern lodge characters that were 11 at the time (11, 1/3 now after that chronicle), That was in Aug 13.
I was really hoping there was some way to finish out pre retirement as LL, but sadly it looks like a no on that.
a few questions.
1. Is there any way to be factionless for 2 scenarios?
2. If not, can we just put down Grand lodge but if asked in game say Lantern still? (just RP)
3. It seems we keep all titles from Lantern, is our Fame/PP the same with a change?
4. If we DO go for an actual faction, what would you suggest? Both characters are Tian, Super Asian flavored.
5. If we go with another faction, and if our Fame/PP does stay, can we buy all the titles and stuff there too? (Time to get a Herrald)
Thank you for all the help.

1: No
2: I would suggest that you say that you are still LL at heart and have been away helping Amara Lee.3: You do and you keep Fame/PP.
4: My suggestion would actually be either Sovereign court or Dark archives. With Sovereign court as the most fitting one I think.
5: You can indeed get things from your new faction
A scenario I would suggest that you try and play:
|
In answer yo your questions
1 No
2 This may work best
3 Yes Fame transfers over to the new faction
4 Soveriegn Court if you are noble asian characters may be a good fit
5 Yes
And finally make sure you play the season 6 scenario of Kirin and Kraken as that is what any lantern lodge ex devotee would be involved in
|
There is also
5-17 Fate of the fiend if you did any of the previous fiend stories
5-25 Vengeance at sundered crag if the name Desmire means anything to you
or if you didn't do it 3-26 Portal of the sacred rune to secure Amara Li's great prize
Edit
All other 7-11s seem related to the overall metaplot of that season with the final one being the plot finale (including 5-25)

1. Is there any way to be factionless for 2 scenarios?
Grand lodge has "the no faction faction" as one of the strong contenders for what it is.
2. If not, can we just put down Grand lodge but if asked in game say Lantern still? (just RP)
Probably. If anything, just say you're grand lodge and work out of the Goka Lodge (which is functionally what amara li does now)
3. It seems we keep all titles from Lantern, is our Fame/PP the same with a change?
eyup.
4. If we DO go for an actual faction, what would you suggest? Both characters are Tian, Super Asian flavored.
Which kind of asian flavor?
Honorable samurai: Silver crusade
Sneaky ninja: exchange
Enlightened book learner: scarab sage
I deal with oni and spirits: Dark archive
(The only type not really associated with asian is liberty's edge..)
5. If we go with another faction, and if our Fame/PP does stay, can we buy all the titles and stuff there too? (Time to get a Herrald)
You would have to check your notes and see if you bought any lantern lodge factions before you switched.
your new fame and PP let you buy new stuff right out of the box: someone that joined andoran (now liberty's edge) at 5 am is just as able to buy eagle knight as someone thats been around for years slowly building up prestige points
|
5-20 does involve the great prize and kind of works as a standalone adventure (don't remember much of Amara Li though)
However it has a reputation for ... unplanned retirements of pathfinders shall we say? Definitely not one to play with a character you haven't played for two years. Play 6-13 first.

Ok cool, thanks

I think this is the way we will end up going.

Its the "Honorable Samurai" style, LN Kensai Magus

Yeah we made sure to buy all the titles before the cut off date. so the character is "Master Sebastian Li, Honored Brother of the Lantern Lodge"
And the more we talk about it, I think we will just go GL for the last 2 games before we hit 12 and take your advice to say we work out of Goka.
Thanks for all the help.

In that case I would think that Sovereign Court would be most appropriate, if you were to choose a faction other than GL.

Through diplomacy, intrigue, deception, and the occasional act of sabotage, the Sovereign Court aims to unite Golarion's nobles to steer national policy—and one day forge a new, glorious empire.
I'm not sure there's much of a place in the Sovereign Court for an honorable Samurai. It is, however, a great fit for my Tien formerly Lantern Lodge Ninja, who I also plan to retire by playing 6-13. I could see the samurai maybe fitting under the diplomacy part of the Sovereign Court, except that the Sovereign Court is also a secret group that doesn't advertise their existence unless they are trying to recruit someone.
Similarly, as it exists at the moment, The Exchange is not really that great of a place for a sneaky ninja. Not much of the Sczarni has survived in it so far. My Qadiran Paladin of Sarenrae, however, has been right at home.
My suggestion would be the Grand Lodge. Though, I haven't played 6-13 yet, so maybe there's something in there that would change my opinion.

May I ask how you applied the "goodbye Kantern Lodge" chronicle to level 11 characters?
I'm thinking of Way of the Kirin, which is Tier 3-7. Was there another one that I missed?
When Way of the Kirin and Rivalry's End were initially run, there was a special exemption allowing the chronicles to be applied to out of tier characters before a specific date, as detailed in this blog post.

I guess I was focused more on the upholding the ideals of aristocracy while working to make an aristocracy worth upholding, which felt more LN to me. I may need to rethink certain characters I have and their current Faction.

Where they claim they eventually want to settle in may be LN, but the way they are getting there is certainly not. It's a power grab, not a revolution. That being said, I could see a character who believed a particular ruler/potential ruler honorable and their claim to power just and righteous following them into the Sovereign Court. But as a whole, it doesn't strike me as an honorable group.
Look at the names of its rewards on the faction card:
Confidante, Conspirator, Spymaster
Or some of the rewards...
"Recover blackmail or incriminating evidence against a named NPC aristocrat, noble, ambassador, or similar figure." I don't think this is to protect said NPC.
"Recruit a servant of a named NPC..." Sounds like building a spy network to me.
"Fulfill one of these goals without revealing your faction affiliation to anyone other than a present or future member of the Sovereign Court."

To be clear, I was not arguing with you, merely pointing out where I had been coming from before you pointed out the difference between my perception and what is really there. :)

graywulf - I didn't thing you were disagreeing. I was just expanding on my previous post and also trying to figure out an honorable concept that would fit into Sovereign Court. I don't think it's impossible. It's just not what the faction represents by default.
David - Both of those things could be true. But protecting a noble and being honorable aren't the same thing. Taken in context with the faction's stated goals, to steer national policy and forge a new empire, the context is pretty clear. They do claim to be doing it for altruistic reasons, but if you run a paladin in Sovereign Court, don't be surprised if you're asked to do something that might not fit your code. That's all I'm saying. Everything you're expected to do might not be honorable.

Fair enough, just wanted my intent to be clear. A hard enough thing on the internet.
