NPC / PC Gear

Advice

So, I'm making a 8th level bard npc. I've noticed that on some npc statblocks, it says 'PC Gear' and there is a gold amount with a plus next to it. I'm assuming that means that the npc gets extra money for gear. My question is: how do I determine how much extra gold the npc gets? Is it determined by class and level?

This is an example of what I'm asking.

For an NPC with PC gear, find the table for PCs starting above 1st level and use the appropriate value.

Once I'm on my computer, I'll find you a page number. ^_^

The Rival Guide has this explanation for the entry, PC Gear.

Each of these stat blocks ends with an entry for “PC Gear.” In a pinch, any of the NPCs in this book can serve as a player character, perhaps to replace a PC who died an unfortunate death, or maybe to give a visiting friend a
character to play during a single game session. All you need to do to make these NPCs work as PCs (apart from getting your GM’s permission to do so—some of the characters presented in this book, particularly those who are monsters in addition to being characters, are relatively powerful) is to look at the NPC’s “PC Gear” entry and spend the listed amount of gold pieces on additional gear.

The additional cost is the difference between, in this case, a Heroic NPC of 20th level (159,000 GP, see Creating NPC's in the CRB) and a PC's Wealth By Level of 20th level (880,000 GP, see Gamemastering, WBL, in the CRB).

Hope that helps, =)

It's page 399 of the Core Rulebook, table 12-4.

Thank you all for your input. I have found the information from the links Swashbucklersdc posted. Level 8 characters get 33,000 gp for PC gear.

Do note that equipping an NPC to that extent increases their CR by 1 (and results in a lot of treasure). It is recommended that you do so sparingly. ^_^

Also remember that whatever you use on the character can be looted by the PCs if killed or otherwise incapacitated.

For the sake of the players dont pull the "his gear is destroyed" on them if you happend to have a few nice things on him, but maybe have a few duplicates that the party already have or sidegrades for situations later in your adventure. ( Instead of a longsword +2, you have a shortsword +1 +flaming etc. )

Thanks for your thoughts on this! I think I have what my character needs in terms of gear and weapons. However, I still have quite a lot of gold to spend. I was thinking about using the rest to pay for some things to help make his home/lair more lived in (like cooking ware, furniture, etc), some pets, some lower end traps, and things to make his own simple traps to protect his home/lair.
