Skirting the Eye of Abendego

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Are the fringes of the Eye of Abendego at all navigable? I'm just trying to figure out the best overland route from Magnimar to Yamasa by mundane transport.

So far, it looks like the sanest option is to take ship from Magnimar to Azir in Rahadoum, then travel overland through the pass at Haldun.

Would be at all viable to sail from Magnimar, put in at Ilizmagorti for fresh water and supplies, then skirt the edges of the Eye of Abendego?

Yes, but they are not without their own dangers (see Tempest Rising).

Oo, nice, I have access to that.

... and having just reviewed it, that's perfect. Thanks!

To build on your idea, I could definitely see where there might be some (insane?) ship captains who would specialize in traffic along that route. Maybe they've developed special techniques or magics that allow them to handle it better than standard ship traffic.

In general, I think there *must* be a significant number of perfectly sane captains who sail ships around the edges of the Eye. The reason for this: Skull & Shackles implies that regular trade between the Inner Sea and Sargava is significant and profitable enough to make it worthwhile despite both the risks of the Eye and the risk of piracy in The Shackles.

The hazards outlined in Tempest Rising can be skirted and/or managed by ship captains of ~8th level (probably 7th), just based on the level of Profession(Sailor) check required, assuming that they have the right support crew (at least one spell casting officer-level crew member, etc.)

This is, at least, based on my experience in GMing the Skull and Shackles adventure path (still in progress.)

I think of the eye to be similar of the Kessel run in Star Wars ... Something that skillful captains brag how close to the eye they have gotten
