Repel Wood, a wooden splinter vortex of no-damage

Rules Questions

So guys, how come one of the strongest wooden/ plant spells has no damage notes? I mean, you are pretty much unleashing an inferno of wooden shrapnel in a great cone at anything that is standing inside there, with a force strong enough to push enemies along with their equipment backwards. Is there something I am missing or do people really ignore the fist sized wood splinters ramming themselves into their faces?

...because it's not a splinter vortex, it's more like a splinter magnetic repulsion? 40 feet a round is just barely faster than walking (a single move action) and slower than a brisk jog (double move). Also, the only way things break and make splinters is if they're smaller than 3 inches wide and fixed in place (so... braced spears?), everything else remains solid.

You might want to check out some of the more generic spells instead of just the ones with plant / wood themed names to get the effects you want. For instance, Telekinesis pretty well describes what a violent thrust of pieces of wood might do (note: as Bob Bob Bob pointed out, Repel Wood isn't a violent thrust).

Alternately, you could look at Sundering Shards as a way to do some area of effect damage by shattering wooden objects. It's written such that it assumes you're targeting an opponents weapon, but I don't see anything that would prohibit you from, say, sundering a nearby tree, log or stump if that was at hand after enchanting your weapon.
