I thought there was some kind of spell or maybe it was an ability, that would allow you to go to some kind of crime scene or massacre or whatever... and get a vision into the past of what had occurred there.
Is that an actual thing? Or am I dreaming again?

Divination mostly...well different kind of divination spells, you basically need to combine different spells to get the answer that you want. Some might even give you the proper answer, but you need to ask the right question in the case of Commune for example or contact other plane.
Oracles have many different variations of divination, depending on their mysteries, might be worth looking into.
Speak with Dead and blood biography are the ones most useful for examining a crime scene, but divination spells are a many and varied lot.
I think the spell you're thinking of is legend lore, though.
