[Unchained] Shaman and unchained multiclassing

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Hey there, I really love the unchained multiclassing as it finally makes it somewhat viable for the non-powerplayer builds which are mostly fun and preverance over min-maxing and powerplaying. Also rather viable.

So now I am building a Ghoran Wood Shaman that does all this plant stuff while punching things with wood. And I would love to get some of dat Wood Mystic Oracle up my . . .you know.

But the Shaman is a hybrid class, not to mention he doesn't get any abilities to trade at any uneven level . . . what to do? Can't I unchain-multiclass? Do you think I can talk a GM into multiclassing anyways at the cost of a hex (Which is like every 2nd feat after level 2)?

I just looked at the Shaman again, and it seems super legit to multiclass with him, but it would have to be at a single higher level. . . what you guys think?

First of all, if your primary class is Shaman, you shouldn't have any difficulties using the VMC rules - in reverse, there is no VMC Shaman option. Y'know, just trade your 3rd level feat, 7th, 11th, 15th, and 19th feat, and you're good.

With that said, from what I can tell the Wood Mystery is.. not an option off the list of mysteries available to use the Oracle VMC, sadly.

That is, unless you are contemplating multiclassing into Oracle regardless - but keep in mind that your revelations will not progress. Maybe if you clarify what you want a bit more?

A Shaman can pick up a VMC just fine.

You cannot at this time VMC into Shaman, but that doesn't seem to be your goal.

well i just realized i messed up the wording of ho unchained multiclasing worked xD I thought i wold trass class feats not the standard feats gained at the levels :D

So yeah what I wanted was to grab the oracle class at level three and get the wood mysterie, and grab the thorn burst revalation as that is overall a cool ability which I want.

Also, if I instead multiclass into sorcerer I can take any bloodline right o.ô doesnt this make eldritch heritage super useless and saves us 2 feats instead of taking one?

Eldritch Heritage has its advantages:

1. It comes online faster. The feats are available sooner, on the whole, than the VMC is.

2. You can be more selective in the abilities. If you only care about the 3rd-level power, then you're probably willing to lose three feats instead of five. If you only care about the 15th level power, we're talking a relatively even trade (four feats instead of five, but you get a bonus feat from VMC so if your bloodline has a good list it's square).

And of course its disadvantages:

1. Cha requirement.

2. Bloodline powers are at -2 character level, instead of the full level of the Sorcerer VMC.

3. If you want the full bloodline (sans capstone at least), it's an even trade only if the bloodline isn't very dependent on Sorcerer levels and the best feat you can get as a bloodline feat is a Skill Focus. I would not expect both of these conditions to be fulfilled often.

so i cant only take a level 3 dip per VMC into Sorcerer but have to go full commitment into it? But then get all the powers of my bloodline but nothing else?

How does the unchained multiclassing work for oracle?

(sorry I can only get my copy of unchained in earliest 2 months but still would aleady like to theorycraft stuff with the multiclassing)

Yes, Variant Multiclass is all or nothing.

Oracle gets a Mystery and a Curse at first (level = 1/2 character level), a revelation at third (restricted list, Oracle level = character level -6, minimum one), one orison to get as an at-will SLA at 7th, +5 to level for the purpose of her Curse at 11th (so it's level = 5+1/2 CL), and one additional revelation at 15th and 19th.

Interestingly it's not clear if the 15th/19th revelations eat the level-6 penalty, though I assume that they do.

The lists tend to have most of the mystery's revelations available, but for some reason Wood didn't get a list. You could pretty easily chat with a GM about that one though.

welp . . . that makes it seem super useless °-° who the heck wants free cantrips xD why the heck would I want super weak revelations. . .

Oh well thanks anyways, and sorcerer i suppose is then:

3- free bloodline+power

7- bloodline power

11- cantrip

15 -power

19-power

?

Pretty close, as mentioned, the Sorcerer VMC is pretty much a 4-feat cost Eldritch Heritage (5-feat cost if your bloodline feat list sucks), without the charisma requirements.

Sorcerer
A character who chooses sorcerer as her secondary class gains the following secondary class features.

Bloodline Power: At 3rd level, she gains her bloodline’s 1st-level bloodline power.
Improved Bloodline Power: At 7th level, she gains her bloodline’s 3rd-level bloodline power
Blood Feat: At 11th level, she gains one of her bloodline’s feats or Eschew Materials.
Greater Bloodline Power: At 15th level, she gains her bloodline’s 9th-level bloodline power.
True Bloodline Power: At 19th level, she gains her bloodline’s 15th-level bloodline power.
