Kingdom Building Questions.

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I recently picked up Ultimate Campaign as I want to co-opt the Kingdom rules for my game but I had some questions.

When the rules talk about kingdom size this is in hexes?

Unless there is a recruitment cost listed for the example armies they are essentially free (assuming they are a logical choice for the particular kingdom) and then it's just the weekly consumption (maintenance) cost that needs to be paid?

Answers
yes
and
yes but only limited mustering per turn

Thanks Psi. I can't find mustering rules, you don't happen to have a page reference?

not sure of the page as I don't have books with me but it is on the improvement Edicts table (the one that tells you how many improvements/buildings/cities etc per turn you can make.) It is foot note one of the table. you can make or repair units equal to the number of cities you can make per turn.

Psi is spot on: just to note that the rules do not refer to "mustering" as a rules term, but it's a very convenient shorthand, and mustering armies actually uses your city building capacity (so, for example, if you can build 3 cities, you can build one city, muster a new army, and repair an injured army in one turn, but couldn't build a second city).

Perfect. Thanks both. Found it on Table 4-4, note 1.

Another question, for those that have had experience using the system, how did you run the expansion part. Did you require that the hex be explored first and then you rolled on a table to see what was there or you planned out what was in each hex (to a certain degree anyway)?

Thanks!

Personally, I plan ahead. I would only use the exploration rules if my map had a particularly boring area being explored and I wanted to spice it up a bit (which I actually did in my last Kingdom-based game) and I wanted some thought prompts on what to include in each hex.

Thanks Chemlak. Seems I have a bit of work cut out for me then!

Kingdom building is a lot of work, but it's very rewarding (and fun)!

It's the warfare rules that I remember being confusing.

Thanks all!
