Divine Bond mount question

Rules Questions

If a Paladin has a Dog for a Divine Bond mount, or any creature for that matter, is this Animal Companion Divine Bond creature at his side all the time like a Druid etc...?

I guess I read the part where he can summon it by his side so many time s a day and thought maybe it wasn't always with you etc...

It just seems kinda a lot for a full BAB, CHA to saves, spells, Lay on Hands, Smite Evil, immunity to stuff and Spell like abilities to also have a full character level animal companion.

It does not have a time limit written on it so your companion can stay with you all the time, the daily ability is to summon him in a teleport-like manner.

Druids have 9-level spellcasting, 3/4 BAB and Wildshape going for them though so it's not like the Paladin is OP for a Companion that comes from a limited list (only animals suitable as mounts)

Thanks for the quick reply. It just seemed kind WOW to me at first. I guess he's limited in selection and it actually has a downside if it dies on him.
