I have to admit, I've only played core twice, but I've GM'd five sessions now. so I have a newly minted level 3 core barbarian with money to spend, and I am having trouble thinking of what I need.
I have a +1 weapon, masterwork armor, a wand of CLW, a couple backup weapons, a couple potions, all the useful stuff from the barbarian's kit (bought separately, of course), and a crowbar.
I'm sitting on about five hundred gold, and I'm completely at a loss as to what I should buy next. right now I think I'll just save up for +1 armor, but it seems like there should be other mundane stuff I could grab to be more useful in society play. I did some searching and couldn't find a thread dedicated to core necessities, but it's entirely possible I just missed it?
anyone care to chime in with some suggestions? I'll dig out my CRB tonight and thumb through the equipment section for the first time in years, see what jumps out at me.

I prefer a main weapon usually magical, made of adamantine.
A backup weapon of silver or mithril enchanted for incorporeal striking.
Acid, Holywater, and Alchemists Fire for various swarms and hard to hit opponents.
A ranged weapon if practical (heavy crossbow) that I can drop after firing.
A typical Pathfinder Kit (the components are still available) - backpack, chalk, grappling hook, rope, rations, waterskin, pen & ink, bedroll, a few empty vials, and a spellbook (for writing down things.)
Then I tend to enjoy the finer items
fine wine
masterwork manacles
crowbar
sealing wax
signet ring
antitoxin
tindertwig
sun rod
tanglefoot bag
Then the magical essentials
wand of cure light
potion of mage armor (for incorporeal & when caught w/o armor)
potion of fly
potion of barkskin
potion of shield of faith
potion of endure elements
potion of invis
oil of daylight
wand of magic missiles

Some of the fix it items include
2 pa for a potion of fly
2 pa for a potion of cure light wounds
a potion of lesser restoration (NOT a scroll)
a potion of cure blindness (NOT a scroll)
hot weather gear
cold weather gear
MW tools for anything you do a lot of
two sunrods
I also like a chain shirt, useful for sleeping in, or taking rides on boats.
And a large shield, for those adventures where you are the entire front line by yourself. Slow the fight down, and give the archers and casters time to help out.
I'm just going to assume that one of those back-up weapons is a ranged weapon, and that you can do cold iron, silver, piercing, bludgeoning, or slashing damage as you need to. Instead of enchanting all those weapons, grab some oil of magic weapon and align weapon.

Clubs are free, so I dont buy one but always have one. I generally prefer to get the adamantine greatsword to +3 bypassing adamantine, hardness, silver and cold iron so I dont need to enchant more than 2 weapons. If I need to align good or law I buy the oil. Otherwise take the 5 or 10 off in rare cases of piercing only creatues. The MW oil takes time, which is not always avail.

I've found a poting of Mage Armor to be very useful in most of the times you are recogmending the chain shirt for.
and is very handy when you suddenly face a Shadow...

On my list of "must haves"?
(This is going to be a slightly different answer to that question)
Dice everyone can read - even from across the table.
The PC folder for the PC I am going to play. (hopefully up to date!)
A pencil, a pen, and at least one Vis-a-vis marker (water based). extras of these are nice...
A Mini for my PC (at least one - more if he needs them)
hard candy (for when I am loosing my voice)
Breath mints (enough to give some away!)
My "Judge Support Folder" with several scenarios (and everything for them) that I can run in case I get assigned to a 7 person table, or just need to judge at the last minute.... ("Hay! why don't we split this into 2 tables? Seven is just to many players at a table).
My "Pathfinder" rolly case (with all of the above and lots of other goodies in it).
