Hi Folks,
Just started playing Pathfinder last night. Using PCGen to create the character using just the Core Rules. I've got a human fighter - level 1 - and his misc modifier for Jump is -10. Scale armor gives you a -4 and heavy wooden shield is -2. I have a dex of 13 and am lightly encumbered so I'm not sure where the other -4 is coming from. Is this a PCGen issue or what am I missing?
Cheers,
Guy
Ps. We just completed a dnd4e campaign to level 30 and playing a level 1 again is a bit of a change. We had a TPK last night but really asked for it - since this was just a "get reacquainted with the system" session.

Okay, so, looking up the acrobatics rules, it looks like Doug Limmer got it right.
Creatures with a base land speed above 30 feet receive a +4 racial bonus on Acrobatics checks made to jump for every 10 feet of their speed above 30 feet. Creatures with a base land speed below 30 feet receive a –4 racial bonus on Acrobatics checks made to jump for every 10 feet of their speed below 30 feet.
Since the armor slows you down, that applies the slower penalty as well as the acp* that you'd normally be taking.
Still, it looks off it's -4 (acp scale), -2 (acp shield), -4 (20 ft. land speed), +1 (dexterity), -0 ("light" load, I'm guessing?) = -9.
Hm...
EDIT: Ah, right, actually, I see what I was doing wrong - your misc. penalty was -10, not your over-all modifier. Yeah, without factoring in your ability modifier, the misc. penalty is correct. If you factor in your DEX, your check should be -9, unless you have a rank (dropping your total to -8). If you were doing Acrobatics other than jumping, I think your misc. penalty would be -6 instead, yeah? Anyway, hope this helps!
* I use "acp" as short-hand for "armor check penalty" because it's a lot easier to type! :D

Which version of PCGen are you using?
Scale mail is medium armor, which slows your speed to 20'. The slowed speed gives a -4 penalty to jump. That's probably where the difference is.
PCGen usually knows the rules better than I do. There are always bugs to work out, though.
Hi Doug,
Thanx for the answer, based on what I see below it looks correct.
I'm using whatever you get from github - looks like 6.04.01. Tod Milan, who is in our gaming group, did some work with PCGen - and so makes sure we're all up to date.
Cheers,
Guy

Awesome! Glad you were able to start a new thread (I was going to do so for you, if you didn't figure out how).
((Also, love Glen Cook's series. Nice new name!))
Hi Tactics,
Glen Cook is a long time favorite, ever since "A Shadow of All Night Falling" back in... crap - when I was in college.
Cheers,
Piper
