Qinggong-Sohei with Spiderstep feat?

Advice

I'm building a Sohei/Qinggong.
I thought to replace Wholeness of Body with Spider step.

Then I read Spider Step:

Quote:

Benefit: As a move action, you can move up to half your

slow fall distance across a wall or ceiling or across ropes,
branches, or even water or other surfaces that cannot
support your weight. You must reach a solid, level surface
by the end of your turn or you will fall.

Sohei has Slow Fall replaced by KI Weapon.

If I take Spider Step, how do I gauge distances without Slow fall?

Note: Please disregard whether or not I have the whole Qinggong-Wholeness of body thing done correctly. This is about getting the Spider Step without the Slow Fall or not. Thanks.

I could be wrong, but I think that having Slow Fall replaced precludes you from taking spiderstep, thus a sohei cannot have spiderstep/cloudstep. Dump sohei, if you want spiderstep.

If you take an archetype that replaces a class feature, you no longer have that class feature. The requirements of Spider Step allow you to take it as a sohei, but if you do, it does nothing. Your slow fall distance is zero, so your spider step distance is half of zero.

I used Spider Step on another monk once and it was an interesting thing, that was why I was looking at it as a replacement. But Sohei is more important.

I guess it was obvious, but I wanted to see if there was a work around for it.

You can pick up Slow Fall as a 4th level qinggong power.

I didn't see Slow Fall. My PDF is from 2011. But I see where you are going. Thanks!

You can't use qinggong to add back a feature that was replaced by an archetype.

Bloody hell. The large print giveth and the small print taketh away!

Isn't that what Qinggong is supposed to do? Or did the FAQ (or an errata) rewrite the Archetype?

You can take Wholeness of Body but the only reason you would take it would be because you didn't have it anymore.

Am I missing something? Why would you take Monk Abilities twice?

Because you can sack a monk ability at a lower level that you decide you want later. You can give up slow fall to qinggong at 4th and then buy it back at 7th (or whatever). You just can't gain abilities that were given up to another, different archetype.

Well, I don't play in PFS games so I probably won't have to worry. The GM might or might not worry.

Thanks for the help, I'm done.
