"Polyglot as a bonus language"?

Skull & Shackles

So we are running a Skulls and Shackles game and one of the campaign traits grants Polyglot as a bonus language... what's that?!

Polyglot is a mish-mash language spoken in many parts of the Shackles...so in other words, a pretty decent language to know for the Skull & SHACKLES adventure path.

Awesome, I don't need 12 INT to know Common in my Goblin.

Nope, because ironically (or not) Goblins know how to speak Goblin.

You could've just put a rank in linguistics.

I think you're misunderstanding something. "Polyglot" is a specific language on Golarion. If a character has the trait you mentioned that character can speak and understand the language "Polyglot". That character does not know "Common" if they would not know it otherwise.

Polyglot isn't a mish mash language. It's its own language of glottal stops, clicks, clucks, and words, akin to the modern day language of the !Kung people.

I'm at about book four of S&S, and nobody has used Polyglot so far, even though two characters took it.

Cyclops, on the other hand, the other language you can get from that particular trait, is just now finally becoming useful.

Took it long enough.

Yeah, I ended up taking the Adopted > Etymologist trait for Common and Linguistics as a class skill.

Sovereign Court

I plan to add a few jungle encounters if they ever go to the mainland so Polyglot will come in handy... (and if the AP does not call for mainland mayhem, I'll make a side quest -- I just HAVE to use that Monster Codex! :) )
