So we recently found dragonhide scales (probably of a huge dragon). So technically, we have enough material to make a medium banded mail armor or a small half-plate.
We were trying to evaluate the value of those dragon scales.
The dragonhide material indicates that (CRB p. 154):" Dragonhide armor costs twice as much as masterwork armor of that type..."
So a dragonhide banded mail would cost: 800 gp
And a dragonhide half-plate would cost: 1500 gp
Which seems to corrolate to the actual dragonhide armor found on CRB p. 466.
The craft skill indicates that the raw material cost 1/3 of the item cost.
But, since we have enough material to produce either a small half-plate or a medium banded mail, the cost in material would either be 266,6 gp (800/3) gp or 500 gp (1500/3)??
Is that correct???
How much is worth the dragonhide scales that we found? On which armor should we base the worth of the scales?
thanks

According to what I found on d20pfsrd :
One dragon produces enough hide for a single suit of masterwork hide armor for a creature one size category smaller than the dragon. By selecting only choice scales and bits of hide, an armorsmith can produce one suit of masterwork banded mail for a creature two sizes smaller, one suit of masterwork half-plate for a creature three sizes smaller, or one masterwork breastplate or suit of full plate for a creature four sizes smaller. In each case, enough hide is available to produce a light or heavy masterwork shield in addition to the armor, provided that the dragon is Large or larger.
For what it's worth, you thus have enough scales for 1 mwk banded mail + a mwk shield. I'll let you do the calculations.

Indeed, I forgot to include the material cost associated with the shield...probably small though...
@Ipslore: your suggestion makes sense, since most people are medium, but still doesn't explain the two possibilities.... Your logic for the rivets and such could technically also be applied to craft regular armor...but since I didn't see anything better, your suggestion might be the best...
