Another Swashbuckler Precise Strike Question

Rules Questions

I am sorry I know there are tons.

Ok so we are all familiar with "To use this deed, a swashbuckler cannot attack with a weapon in her other hand or use a shield other than a buckler." But my question is... what if I am using a shield bigger then a buckler in the other hand, as my one hand piercing weapon?

I mean to say, say I am fighting with a Shield and Sword combo, and my shield is a heavy spiked shield, it is a one handed piercing weapon. If I shield bashed with this weapon, would I be allowed to add precise strike damage to it so long as I didn't use my sword?

Sounds to me like you're using "a shield other than a buckler".

Right?

Indeed, but not as a shield in the other hand which is what I think the text is meant to imply. Meaning that you cannot have a heavy shield and a rapier and use the rapier to deal damage that turn. After all Heavy Spiked Shield is a weapon not being used as a shield, its being used as a weapon.

Let's parse this out. The text is stating two different things.

"To use this deed, a swashbuckler cannot attack with a weapon in her other hand or use a shield other than a buckler."

This means:

1) "To use this deed, a swashbuckler cannot attack with a weapon in her other hand"

and

2) "To use this deed, a swashbuckler cannot use a shield other than a buckler"

Even if you were just bashing with your shield, and had nothing in your off hand, you could still not benefit from Precise Strike, as you are still using "a shield other than a buckler".

Alright, it really limits what you can do with a Swashbuckler, basically cliche or gtho

*shrug*

I've seen lots of interesting and different Swashbucklers in my area.

A one level dip seems to be the popular trend right now.

You can even make a Swashbuckling Tiger Animal Companion.

you also aren't proficient with non buckler shields so you would need an extra feat just to become proficient with those shields to do that

at that point the everyman gaming swashbuckler add on has stuff that deals with this and could help you do what you want
