Appraise, Locks, and Disable Device

Rules Questions

Can make an Appraise check to tell my Rogue what quality a lock is and thus know it's Disable DC? After knowing that could the Rogue take 10 if the situation allowed? It would be a great use for the Appraise skill!

If so what would the DC of said Appraise check be?

A DC 20 Appraise check determines the value of a common item.

So presuming that you don't fiddle with the prices, the locks are 20, 40, 80, and 150 gp for DC 20, 25, 30, and 40. That seems like the thing a lockpicker would learn, especially one trained in Appraise.

I would allow the PC to use whichever skill bonus was higher to determine the value/quality.

Pathfinder Maps, Starfinder Maps, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

I would allow either Disable Device or indirectly Appraise to determine the DC of the lock.

Only Appraise would indicate how much the lock is worth, and how much you might devalue it if things go wrong on the Disable Device check. Note that Appraise can be attempted untrained.
