summon elder worm druid spell

So I was looking at spells and saw one called summon elder worm. It is a 9th level druid spell that summons a purple worm. My first thought was "That's awesome!" Has anyone chosen this spell with their character. Is it practical or not that good? Is it awesome or not that cool?

BTW, the spell is from ultimate magic.

Hi. I never tried this spell (nor summoning builds) but as far as I see it :

- Purple Worm is a solid magical beast : STR 35 (bite +25 / 4d8+12), CON 25 (200 HP) and some cool stuff like tremorsense for pesk invisible critters and swallow whole
- Add Giant Template : STR 39 (+26 / 6d8+14), CON 29 (232 HP), AC 26, greater CMB (remember swallow whole)

Now, you got your monster, I guess that you choosed to be a summoning druid and then did a minimal optimization on your build.

With feats :
First, you need the useless "Spell Focus (conjuration)" as a prerequisite for
- Augment Summoning : STR 43 (+28 / 6d8+16), CON 33 (264 HP) and upgrades swallow whole attack
- Evolved Summon Monster : Bite, for example, bite +28 / 6d8+24)
- if you got Orc blood (many ways), you can get Ferocious Summons : worm won't die until it get 300+ HP damage
- if you can handle the investment (4 feats), with Spell Perfection, you get : STR 47 (+30 / 6d8+27), CON 37 (296 HP)

And now with items :
- Rod of Giant Summoning (Summoning Handbook) : you get Summon Elder Worm with Summon Monster VIII (doesnt stack with Summon Elder Worm)
- Suzerain scepter for a little boost to attack

Voila. Quick search to answer your question. I'm pretty sure you will find great build suggestions or dedicated handbooks on Paizo forums and over Internet.

Have fun :-)

Be aware, though, at this level it is trivial for an enemy spellcaster to neutralize said worm. Wall of Thorns, hold monster, etc etc etc.

In general (it can depend a lot on the group) summoning creatures with all sorts of weird abilities is better than summoning things to just kill your opponents.

Its good for burrowing out a massive hole underneath somewhere you want to break into which a small military force could hide in

then sending it through another burrowed hole somewhere else to drag away the main force from you initial hole through which your main force can exit.

Suppose that's not a bad candidate for a scroll. If you can find a high level druid to get it for you, the level of damage you could inflict with a giant purple worm would be fairly impressive for the cost.

I don't believe Spell Perfection would effect the Strength and Constitution adjustments. Those aren't being applied to a spell.
