Mystic Theurge Advice

Advice

Hey guys, I am playing a Mystic Theurge in RotRL. I am lvl 12; 3Wiz/3Clr/6MT. With access to so many spells, does anyone have any tips/apps/ideas for keeping track of spells known/ spells mem'd. With so many options, I find myself taking far to long on my turn for my own liking. I think organization tips may be my solution.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

(I rolled this toon at lvl 12 because my last character died, so I haven't slowly gotten to this point...I am jumping in head first at the deep end LOL)

What I've found useful is to keep a list of spells that you usually use in specific situations(blasting, buffing, debuffing, control, etc.), as well as a list of what you have prepared that day. That way you can be thinking well in advance about what you'd like to do on your turn, and have somewhat of a standard set of spells that you will automatically think to use on specific situations.

If preparing so many spells is getting to be a hassle, and if your character isn't set in stone, you could switch to being a spontaneous caster.

You can use spell-like abilities to meet the spellcasting prerequisites for Mystic Theurge, so you could be something like Sorcerer 2/Oracle 1/Mystic Theurge 9.

Try getting a stack of note cards, and then create a note card for each spell you typically use. You can use a card file box to keep them in order by either level or alphabetically. When you prepare spells, pull out of the box the spell cards that you have set for the day.

Edit: To Clarify, keep the pertinent information for the spell on each card so you don't have to constantly refer to a reference book or online. Speeds up game play.

For my MT, I have it pretty much set that my Wizard spells are summons and control type spells and the my Cleric spells are buffs and condition removal.

I'm currently running a Mystic Theurge in a RotRL campaign. It is a Sorc4/Druid3/MT1 at the moment. Wild-Blooded Sylvan/Tattooed Sorcerer. Feral Child/Packlord Druid.

I second making and keeping a list of certain spells you'd use for certain occasions. Also, index cards for the spells so you are not completely familiar with. The biggest challenge to playing a spellcaster is knowing your spells. Have something you can do in every scenario.

I am one of three players. We have a elven court blade, crit happy human fighter. A sneaky, sneak-attack happy tiefling rogue. And then myself. My character focuses on battle prep, field control and guerrilla tactics.

Battle prep = Potion creation (nothing like a potion of Mirror Image to offset low AC or a monster's high attack). Coaching the rogue on UMD so that he can make use of the wand of shocking grasp to add a tasty 5d6 damage to an already high sneak attack. Knowledge checks against monsters and sharing tactics with the others.

Field control = lock that field DOWN! Send your animal companion in as a flank-assist. Trip everything to give the rogue a much needed +4 to hit. Enlarge the fighter for reach and drop summoned creatures around to soak up attention and damage. Be prepared for dropping a grease spell if it is needed. Entangle everything and pepper the enemies from afar before the battle starts.

Guerrilla tactics = I have my own special brand. Combination of small to medium sized bird (packlord 2 HD animal companion) with knowledge of the bombard/deliver tricks and a tiny familiar preloaded with shocking grasp or a touch healing spell. This allows me to stay back while assisting from afar with damage and healing. Still being able to reliable hit things with a longbow, I can use gravity bow and flame arrow to bring fire from the sky. I also make use of the experimental wordcaster to pick and choose select damage spells to tailor fit the occasion.

/Bump. Thanks for the tips so far, but I am not changing the character to a spontaneous caster. I am just looking for tips about managing the current spell selection load.
