crafting with spellcraft skill

Rules Questions

So let's say you have Craft Magic Armor & Weapons + Spellcraft skill maxed. Is it the case that you can use the spellcraft skill to make your magic suit of armor instead of using the craft armor skill

You can always use spellcraft for crafting on every magic item I can think of right now. The PRD says "Skill Used in Creation: Spellcraft or Craft (armor)." for magic armor specifically.

I believe you can use Spellcraft to enchant a masterwork suit of armor into a magical suit of armor - you cannot use spellcraft to create a masterwork suit of armor.

CraziFuzzy is accurate; if you're lacking the Craft: Armor skill, then you'll have to purchase or otherwise obtain the Masterwork armor you wish to enchant.

If you use the feat "Master Craftsman" you cannot use Spellcraft either, you have to use the skill associated with your Master Craftsman feat.

And in theory, that would apply to all magic item creation. Nothing gets poofed into existence with it - magic items are enchanted from mundane items. The requirement for masterwork mundane item to start with is not written for non-weapon/armor enchanting, mainly because there are no rules for 'masterwork jewelry', but I'd argue they should be of either a decently high quality (cost), or have some other significant history, to allow them to accept the enchantment.

Also, keep in mind that there are far more ways to boost a Craft skill check, than there are to boost a Spellcraft skill check.

Traits, Feats, Class Abilities, racial traits, Masterwork tools, etc.

Gloves of Elvenkind +5 Competence to Spellcraft

Armillary Amulet +5 Competence to Spellcraft

The Spellcraft skill does not create the armor. It makes the armor magic.

Not exactly common items, the second in particular.

Also in the Advanced Race Guide:

Tools, Amazing Tools of Manufacture - which is insanely awesome.

So... Creating a masterwork fullplate for 825 gp in materials in a single hour will certainly make certain crafters filthy rich... Not players however as they would sell it at cost.

If you want to get rich by crafting, play an Alchemist/Daggermark Poisoner.

Yeah, that's part of the problem with the fact that the game doesn't actually have an economy. Prices are based on PC balance only - so yes, just about any crafting could break the game if done to excess. That's why there's a blurb in Ultimate Campaign about not allowing crafting for profit - the rules just don't properly support it beyond the basic income from the craft skill.

Also, to get the speed bonus requires 6 ranks in the specific craft skill - which not many NPC's would have. It would likely be the greatest smith in the land to have 6+ levels of expert, AND the capital to afford this amazing set of tools. really, these tools were created to make crafting mundane items not stupid - since the rules simply don't work properly on their own.
