Entangle and web vs fluid creatures

Rules Questions

Hi All!
Can I stop/hold/slow a fluid or windy creature with entangle, web or similar spells (forcecage)? Actually we had a debate about a medium water elemental which crossed an entangle spell.
Some said elementals (water, water and fire) aren't resisting such spells and effects, others said that they can pass through these spells. Both make sense.

There is nothing in the monster universal rules, or the Elemental, Water bestiary entry suggesting that water elementals are unaffected by those types of spells.
None of "outsider","elemental","extraplanar" or "water" suggest that.

The only thing I can find is a windy creature (air elemental) flying over the area, thus ignoring it. Course, an earth elemental could dig under the area then too. (Yay 3d logic in a 2d game)

For Water and Fire, they have a solid form and would be subject to the difficult terrain and trapping effects.

One thing to keep in mind - don't try to use real-world logic when trying to figure out game rules. That way lies madness.

These creatures are solid and affected by other solid things. They are solid beings with the 'essence' of fire or water or air about them, that's why you don't need a magic weapon to hit an air elemental; they're not incorporeal.

All elementals have a solid form, even though you wouldn't think of any of them as solid except earth. If they weren't solid, none of them could have slam attacks. Except all of them do.

Possibility: Air Elemental in Whirlwind form (also water in vortex, but only underwater for that one) since you do not provoke when you enter a space, it is reasonable that difficult terrain and entangling powers have little effect. Course, Air flies so difficult terrain is almost never an issue anyway.

Thanks for the answers!
I thought that elementals are solid creatures so this type of magic affect them.
MeanMutton: I agree with you about the real-world vs RPG logic, but these RPGs based on real-world physics. This why I asked it. :)
