1001 Silly and Stupid GM Tricks

Gamer Life General Discussion

1) Say, "You pause to camp for the night in the wilderness and ... " Roll the dice, flip through a book. Chuckle evilly. Flip through book, pause on a random page. Roll dice again. Raise eyebrow once. Grin. ".... nothing happens!"

2) In an open-ended or sandboxy adventure, one of the players says something out loud that's completely away from the intended plot. Think, "Hmmm, that's not bad," then rewrite plot on the fly to incorporate player's musings.

Sovereign Court

Ask if anyone has the trapspotter ability. Roll a D20 any time that character moves, if only to make them paranoid.

Look up the Quantum Ogre. That ones a fav of mine.

My players will shout each other down to keep someone from accidentally "suggesting" something out loud.

Roll stabilize for NPC you'd like to see coming after them again.
If they aren't actually dead and merely KO and stabilized........

Not seeing any silly or stupid tricks here, just GM SOP tactics so (s)he can have some fun too. Just saying.

SOP? You crazy kids and your acronyms and your music and your clothes...

I know most of you know what SOP stands for but for those who don't here is the most used meaning:

Standard Operating Procedure

I think I knew that... brain just wasn't firing on all cylinders.

That happens to me more times than I care to admit.

I've used SOP so much in 20 years in the Army it is hard to forget what it means.

Liberty's Edge

I did not know that. Now I've learned my new thing for the year.

+1
My 1st new word learned in 2015.

A friends' Dad had a motto, "Learn something new every day."

That's better than my dad's friend's motto...

"I didnt want her... She's what I needed at the time."

Thanks for explaining that, Silver. I thought it was such a common acronym that I didn't even stop to think that anyone might not know it.

So, your brain was using SOP when thinking about SOP. :-)

So, you're saying that SOP for some is FUBAR?

Rodger that. :P

Not so much FUBAR, but SNAFU.

FUBAR = Fouled Up Beyond All Recognition
SNAFU = Situation Normal, All Fouled Up
