Acrobatics and Barbarians

Rules Questions

OK, question on avoiding the dreaded Attack of Opportunity using Acrobatics. The skill reads: 'You cannot use Acrobatics to move past foes if your speed is reduced due to carrying a medium or heavy load or wearing medium or heavy armor. If an ability allows you to move at full speed under such conditions, you can use Acrobatics to move past foes.' Barbarians have Fast Movement, so does this qualify as such an ability to let me try the check in medium armour, or is it still considered reduced?

Still reduced.

What's your speed if you're not wearing medium or heavy armor? What's your speed if you are? If the latter is a smaller number than the former, then your speed is being reduced.

Pathfinder Maps, Starfinder Maps, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

On the other hand, Mithral medium armor would not reduce your speed.

Mithral medium armor is still medium armor, and still prevents Acrobatics from being used in this manner.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Except Mithral armour is considered one category lighter for the purposes of movement so I have to agree with BretI.

The rule is that if you get slowed down by armor or encumbrance, no acrobatics to avoid AoO. But if mithral isn't slowing you down, or you got a class ability to ignore speed penalty (like cavalier emmisary or fighter's armor training) then you can acrobatics to avoid AoO.

Thanks for the clarifications.

Doesn't really matter, the odds of beating the CMD DC with a skill check are awful.

If you have a bad or Acrobatics neutral build.

If you build for it, you can get your Acrobatics up to a level where you can have a good shot at it.

Most of the builds that I've seen have to be dex-based characters who invest a couple feats and a magic item or two into boosting their checks order to handle the high acrobatics DCs. More than what I would consider a worthwhile investment, really.

My experience is otherwise. Yes, there was a magic item involved, but the build was Strength based, not Dex based, and nothing bought like Skill Focus, although there was a trait involved to make it a class skill with a +1 trait bonus.

Probably depends on the level, given the way CMD tends to scale.
