Shar closest equivalent in golarion?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Shar is a forgotten realms neutral evil deity of darkness, loss, night, secrets and lies. So, what coudl be the closest equivalent in golarion?

Probably Norgorber, among the major gods. He's Neutral Evil and is the god of greed, secrets, poison, and murder.

Zon-Kuthon, the Hellraiser expy, is another good candidate. He's the god of envy, pain, darkness, and loss, and is very torture and pain focused. He's LE rather than NE, but otherwise a strong contender for the equivalent deity.

Which aspect of Shar do you want to focus on, the darkness/night stuff (which is more Norgorber) or the emotional stuff (which is more Zon-Kuthon). As I remember Shar is kind of a nihilistic god, which is closer to ZK.

The Exchange

Hmm... I'd say Norgorber sort of fits that bill. Bonus points being that he is actually known as three separate entities depending on who worships him.

He is Neutral Evil and his portfolio is the God of Greed, Murder, Secret, and Poison. No one even knows who he was before he took to the test of the Starstone and became a deity.

The other one I could think that might fit would be Zon-Kuthon. His portfolio is the God of Darkness, Envy, Loss, and Pain and he is known as the Midnight Lord. He is lawful evil though...

That's just from the core deities in the Inner Sea World Guide. If there are others that might fit I do not know them.

Thanks. I'm interested in the dark moon monks asociated with Shar

Spoiler:
Shar is worshipped by a powerful sect of monks who maintain open temples in lands ruled by evil overlords or hide among hills, back alleys, or the Underdark. Most of the Dark Moon monks are human, but occasionally they are joined by a half-orc, shade, or drow.[1] These sorceror-monks have dedicated themselves body, mind, and soul to Shar, the Lady of Loss. The monks are her assassins, her enforcers, and her shadowy agents. Their training is diverse, as are their skills, and their devotion to their Lady is absolute. The organization’s leaders have direct contact with their goddess, and are not subject to the authority or will of her clergy. The fact that the Monks of the Dark Moon keep their existence, whereabouts and identities secret is the only thing that has kept them from becoming one of the most feared organizations in Faerun. [4]

You could also try Groetus CN deity, has a 'doomsday cult' sort of flavor. Domains: Chaos, Darkness, Destruction, Madness, Void; Subdomains: Catastrophe, Insanity, Loss, Night, Protean, Stars.

Then to me, a Lawful cult of monks who perform assassinations and stick to the shadows would easily fit as bunch of Norgorber worshippers, since Lawful Evil is within Norg's wheelhouse easily. I would think that if you chose Zon-Kuthon, torture and mutilation wouldn't be themes that mesh with Shar too well.

BTW, though no one mentioned it, if you're a player and you have a DM who is more strict about canon, you might also want to take a look at the Red Mantis Assassins, followers of Achakek - they dont have the "darkness and loss" themes going on, but they are part of the setting, and already have a good bit of material.

Scarab Sages

I'd go with Norgorber. The anaphexia are a good sub for Dark Moon monks too.

I'm inclining more for norgober, Zon-kuthon evil ways seems more visible.

Wow,

" They specifically venerate his aspect as the Reaper of Reputation and master of all secrets; the assassins are sworn to keep for all eternity the secrets that they know"

Almost Exactly What I'm looking for.

Thank you everyone.

Yeah but they got a great health care plan and their retirement program is to die for.
