Cops do not think it was an accident.
Luckily nobody died, but the fact that it is not believed to be an accident is astounding. Chlorine gas was used as a chemical weapon in the First World War. If the cops are right, this is a terrorist attack with what is technically considered a WMD. On a furry convention. A FURRY CONVENTION. If you wrote this in fiction I would call it completely and utterly ridiculous. And who has that much hate towards furrys? I though insulting them was over the line. This is straight up psychotic.

And likely ten minutes from an attack on cosplayers at the next comicon. Taking out a sex fettish furries gathering...shouldnt he have gone with Elmer FUD and a shotgun?

Kelsey - rabbits a non native invasive species in Austalia are dealt with by chemical and biological methods.
I suggest you read up on rabbit plagues in Australia. I have been in a mouse plague it is terrifying. In some places you can't walk without the crunch of writhing bodies under your feet, or you can't unsee what you thought was a blanket suddenly scatter and run up the walls, and you as you enter the room.
Rabbits are much much worse.

I think there are many people who hate furries a LOT. If just one of them went off kilter...or had bad tastes in jokes...well....
If it was set on purpose, I'd think it would be more the type that hates furries and those types rather than an actual terrorist type...someone who did it due to thinking it would be funny (it's not) or wanted to antagonize furries simply because.
Basically, an idiot and a bully who hopefully would be caught.

Um, well, as for the accident...In Edmonton someone put a grenade in the goodwill hamper with some clothes. Police believe that it was an accident and the grenade was leftover from a military training exercise. The grenade was live, as was the WWII shell dug up in Stanley Park, Vancouver last week, discovered by a metal detecting hobbyist.
Police believe it was in a box that someone didn't look in before donating the entire box. The grenade still had the pin in it.

Cops do not think it was an accident? How do you accidentally use a wmd for them to consider the possibility it was an accident?
If the victims were black they would need to verify that there wasn't a pool supply sales convention in that city... ever... because you know, it could've been by mistake.

Considering how obscure the subculture is, the perpetrator probably was attacking whoever was in the convention centre, not the furries specifically.

According to the linked article, the con was being held in a hotel. IANWalterWhite, but is chlorine used in the manufacturer of any drugs? Could some idiot have been trying to make a batch of something in one of the hotel rooms or the stairwell, and the gas spread?
Well, Krensky DID mention the bleach and ammonia thing....
I suppose maybe someone was doing chemical experiments with chlorine?
Wanted the pool cleaner?

Just as long as it's not a vorpal bunny plague. Which is what would result if there were rabbits that were native to Australia.

If Rabbits were native to Australia, they'd have fangs and be as carnivorous as the Monty Python rabbit, claws as big as anything, and be one of the most poisoness creatures on earth (Australia seems to have all sorts of deadly poisoness nasty creatures_
Platapus? Or Tasmanian devil?

If you mix the wrong cleaning chemicals you can create chlorine gas by accident, it does happen.
Edit: That's what I get for not reading to the bottom before replying. Carry on.

They sell the stuff for pool cleaners.
Drop some of that stuff in an enclosed space (like a stair well) and get it wet, or worse mix it with an amonia cleaner. It'll make you dizzy. Did that on accident in a bathroom once, had to drag someone out out of the bathroom.

Honestly, it seems like a typical frat prank against a geek club at college. I know we dealt with at least 1 similar thing a year in the sci-fi club when I was in school. This is taken up a notch though, and I really hope it actually gets investigated.
At least one amusing thing has come of it though.
The Morning Joe learns what furries are.
