"free" Eidolon Evolution swapping?

Scarab Sages

Just wondering if we are required to keep the "free" starting evolutions on each of the eidolon base forms? Can we swap them?

Or even, can we alter things like limbs(arms) to limbs(Legs)? How about swapping bite with one of the others melee attack modes?

Although not written out, it seems to be strongly implied with the following -

Evolutions wrote:
Each eidolon receives a number of evolution points that can be spent to give the eidolon new abilities, powers, and other upgrades. These abilities, called evolutions, can be changed whenever the summoner gains a new level, but they are otherwise set.

Only points from the evolution pool can be used. Free evolutions are free, and therefore not part of the pool of points that can be utilized. This also means points were not taken to gain those free evolutions either.

Of course, a GM can house rule this as he or she feels in a home game. Best to check with your GM first. (Might be the case if you want really off the wall Eidolons, like floating geometric polygons and such).

Was sort of thinking that was the point eidolon, to make a wacky, semi-sane creature, which doesn't exist in the real world. I mean, if I wanted a normal creature, I'd just take an animal companion, those are often much better.

As is, I'm pretty annoyed that I have to buy two legs at a time, and two claws. Would be much more awesome with three legs, one pincer arm, and a second head mounted to a tentacle that is the other arm.

In response to Murdock -

It is imaginative, yet making something really oddball isn't covered in the rules as written. You will have to talk with your GM to allow for the more unusual.

Eidolons are by no means ordinary. They just don't get too abstract like glowing balls of light, living mathematical equations, or stitched together monstrosities with odd numbered limbs and heads.

That is unless a GM makes a ruling in your favor and houserules it so. If the GM does not allow such oddities, please respect that decision.

you can always put flavor on your eidolon.

sure, he can have 3 legs, but mechanically they count as two for all purposes if you have only paid for the leg evolution once.

the weird thing is that the eidolon is supposed to be kinda semiset in appearance (ok, maybe growing and etc, but not from a horse to a dragon and etc) but evolutions keep adding limbs, heads and stuff, it can become weird.

for my own games, we do it either by "growing":
a hydra alike eidolon sprouting new heads. a dragonlike manifesting wings. a moth becoming like a butterfly. a 6limbed quadrapled standing up like a centaur, and etc.

or by "flavor limbs at low levels":
a spider with only 2 sets of functionable legs, later on as the player adds evolutions, more become functionable, and etc
