RotRL with 6 players

Rise of the Runelords

So I started with 4 players, got through the first goblin raid on Sandpoint in Burnt Offerings, but somehow two more players joined the group. I'm not worried about the xp as I will have them level when I want, but I'm afraid two extra players will unbalance the encounters, what would you do?

I'm dealing with this right now. I started with 7 players one of whom is now a 50 /50 proposition if he shows up. Joey Virtue on these boards has a decent write up geared towards the 3.5 edition for 6 players in RotRLs. I used that for a starting point. A couple of things I've found going into the later chapters is it becomes harder to balance BBEG fights. If I raise the power level too much I run the risk of TPKs if I don't they walk through it (my players are min/max experienced gamers). I've found usually applying advanced template and increasing HP by 30% and a few extra mooks works best YMMV.

Also I'd recommend getting Hero Labs someone has done portfolios of all the bad guys and adjusting them is fairly easy in HL

I have Hero Lab, could you give me a link to those portfolios?

Thanks!!!

Very very handy also my group drinks a lot when we play...math hard...

There are normally threads for the different older AP's where somebody has done the work of upgrading the AP to account for six players. RotRL doesn't have this for the updated edition?

Thanks for that link. :)

I am running a 6 player campaign and they don't all show up every session. I have found that maximizing the listed HP then increasing by 50% for each player above 4 has worked well. Of course I have a few min/maxer type players in the group with quite powerful builds. Sometimes I adjust on the fly or don't increase the HP if the fight isn't going particularly well for the PCs. I've found that it's pretty easy to "fell things out" with this system and it's easy to make adjustments.
