I'm looking to add a couple players to my Savage Worlds action/horror game. The details of the game can be found here:
New players will start off as Seasoned Wild Cards with $3,000 worth of gear, a free smart phone and a vehicle.
This is an action adventure game with horror elements tossed in. I'm looking to evoke a Buffy/Supernatural tone here. If that interests you please have a look at the game. If you are unsure about the Savage Worlds system I have a few veteran players who along with myself will be happy to show you the ropes.

Clebsch73 - The Horror Companion is fun to have, but not strictly speaking necessary. I'll be using it as a reference and for monsters and stats. But I'll clarify any sticking points in the Discussion tab. If you want to know how much silver bullets cost, for example, just ask and I'll tell you.
I will say that it's not a bad read though. And it's got some cool monsters. Xenomorphs anyone?
Nohwear - The Arcane Backgrounds Weird Science, Psionics and Super Powers won't be available. But Magic or Miracles are fine. You can also do some ritualized magic using the knowledge (occult) skill.
For example, a couple of my players used a ritual to banish a demon, while zombies were banging down a door, trying to get in and eat them. They made occult rolls for the ritual as part of a dramatic task, while the other players barricaded the door.

Also, let me know if there is something missing from the group. I'll be comparing the character's strength and weaknesses to get my own sense of gaps, but if there's something you know that cries out, [and it's not something we will be trying to kill], let me know.
Generally speaking, I don't really worry about party balance. And I worry about it even less so in a system like Savage Worlds where there aren't traditional classes. Just try to come up with a concept that would be fun, and I'll handle the rest.

Thanks. I'll tweak it over the next few days. I'd like to see if she could put together special shotgun shells with a mixture of lead, silver, cold iron, and ultraviolet, so if she's dealing with something that might require special materials to hit, she's got most bases covered. I assume damage would be reduced if only one type of material does damage. She might also want some shot-gun slugs made from special materials, so if she knows what will harm a monster, she can concentrate the damage. She's got some money left after buying her basic collection of weapons, so we can work out the cost, assuming the materials are available.
I'm also curious what the laws are about carrying a katana in public. I'll do a few Google searches to see what I can find. I hope she can function as a kind of all-around vehicle jockey, so in case you want to get into a car or boat chase, she can deliver. Otherwise, I figure she'll be a combination of muscle and weapons person, versatile enough to deal with a lot of situations.
If she has money left-over, I'd be interested in things she might do to improve the performance of her car. I'll make my next post to the discussion board if that's okay. Let me know if you have something special in mind to introduce her to the group or if she just gets introduced by Maggie at the next meeting.

I am allowing players to choose a magic item. Essentially, they describe it, and I'll come up with the mechanics for it. There really isn't a whole lot to buy in the Savage Worlds Deluxe. Although, some Savage Settings have rules for that.
So what you're thinking of is similar in effect to say Blood Magic from Dragon Age. Stab your hand and something happen? I won't penalize you with wounds for that, unless you describe something particularly visceral.
That being said, I can see a few downsides to constantly smelling like blood in a horror game. :-)
You'll still need to decide whether your arcane background is Magic or Miracles though. But beyond that I don't have any particular objection to how you choose to express it.
