Pathfinder Field Guide

So, with the recent changes to PFS, will we be seeing a new Pathfinder Field Guide?

The old one is probably still useful (I do not own a copy, nor does anyone in the area from my inquiries at the local group) but of the 10 factions it details (again, assumption) only 2 are still available for play. All the others have been retired. This makes about 10 pages of the field guide (assuming the reviews are accurate) completely irrelevant to a new player.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

I wouldn't be surprised to see some sort of Pathfinder Society related release sometime in the next year. Roughly one a year seems about reasonable. The Pathfinder Society Primer was the last one, and that's less than a year old (I believe).

current factions count as some of the old ones for mechanical boons iirc

Dark Archive 1/5

Sczarni, Shadow Lodge and Lantern Lodge are the only factions in the book that are now irrelevant. The rest is still valid, with a direct mapping of old to new (Andoran => Liberty's Edge)

It's a great resource, really. It's worth grabbing the PDF.

Everything in that book is still legal (even if a small amount is no longer available).

Nearly every one of my characters has at least one vanity from the back sections.

It's good stuff.

Sovereign Court

On the other hand, all the RP information about who they are and what they do will be different between the two legacy factions.

Um... kinda? maybe it is just the way i read it, but LE isn't very different from the background for Andoran, SC is still pretty much Taldan, etc. Qadira became the mafia though.

Silver Crusade 4/5

1 person marked this as a favorite.

What I'd love to see (and probably won't because of a desire to keep selling old product) is to consolidate the items/feats/spells/etc from some of the obsolete guides into a new guide so that players are not forced to buy an obsolete guide just to be able to legally use that one item or whatever.

The basically deprecated guides which I'm referring to are: Pathfinder Society Primer, Pathfinder Society Field Guide, and Seekers of Secrets. I'm not sure if there are others.

I'd love to see a PFS hardback, consolidating the good stuff from the primer, field guide, and Seeker of Secrets and some new stuff. It took me forever to track down a physical copy of SoS and the PFSFG. I'd buy that product in a heartbeat.

Edit: there's also a little in the faction guide I'd like to see reproduced.

Dark Archive 1/5

Actually, Qadira bought out the mafia to extend its reach, so the mafia became slightly more legit.

Liberty's Edge 5/5

Seekers of Secrets has various problems, and PFS Field Guide is out of date in the factions section. Both could stand updates, sure, although there's still some good stuff in both. (I love me the Lore Warden, if we're talking crunch.)

I don't see how in any way the Pathfinder Society Field Guide is deprecated, however. It's not even that old.

As I stated in my OP, I do not have a copy, nor does anyone in my area for me to check out before buying, so my thoughts were based on the reviews of the product.

I was not aware that Dark Archive could take old Chelix boons, that does allay my concerns on that section (mostly, still 3 factions gone, but better then 8 gone). I figured that the new factions were different enough that the old boons were not valid. (Especially since you can not get the old traits for old factions)

I am actually looking at buying Seeker of Secrets and PFS field Guide by Christmas time, but was hoping to save gold if there was information on a new publication covering the info.

Just what can be found in the Guide to Organized Play.

The Exchange 4/5 5/5

I believe there was a post by campaign leadership around the time the Primer came out that they hoped to not be publishing further "Pathfinder Society specific" books for a while as many PFS players felt like each was a "required" purchase.

That may have just been personal opinion, though.
