Multiclassed Paladin Archer Build

Advice

Hey folks like many who have fallen for this class as a trap, Ive challenged myself to build a Paladin Archer.

I refer to this Build as the Close Quarters Divine Hunter.

I am Starting at Lvl 3 and ive planned to 10

Race: Half Elf (no Modifications)

Str 14
Dex 17
Con 10
Int 10
Wis 8
Cha 16

All Favored Class for Paladin goes to the +1/2 on lay on hands
All Favored Class For Ranger foes to +1 HP

1st Lvl Divine Hunter (Paladin)
Feats: 1st-Point Blank Shot P-Precise Shot E-Skill Focus(Perception)
2nd Lvl Divine Hunter (Paladin)
3rd Lvl Hooded Champion (Ranger)
Feats: 3rd-Deadly Aim
4th Lvl Hooded Champion (Ranger)
Feats: R- Rapid Shot Ability Increase +1 Dex
5th Lvl Hooded Champion (Ranger)
Feats: 5th-Weapon Focus(LongBow) Favored Terrain (Urban)
6th Lvl Divine Hunter (Paladin)
7th Lvl Divine Hunter (Paladin)
Feats: 7th-Many Shot
8th LvL Divine Hunter (Paladin)
9th LvL Divine Hunter (Paladin)
Feats: 9th- Improved Critical (Long Bow)
10th LvL Divine Hunter (Paladin)

The long run idea is a paladin Archer who is ready for going into close quarter combat as well as sniping from afar. He will be a Wand Lover and special ammo collector. He is taking the Disilusioned Trait to make up for the loss of fear immunity , and Undead Crusader as were doing mummy's mask

Will appreciate any ideas !

What are you going to close quarter fighting with? As you already know the Paladin can't qualify for Point-blank Master so it will be tough to close quarters fight with your bow.

Without enough room for Weapon Finesse it will be tough to hit consistently with a melee weapon (assuming you are DEX focused).

And to be honest I don't know if you can use your divine bond class feature with more than one weapon (and clearly not more than one at a time) - which means fighting in close quarters is going to be so much less effective for you if you can't use your bow...

But, a 3 level dip into Monk (Zen Archer) would give you several nice perks, including the following;

- Unarmed Strike
- Perfect Strike
- Precise Shot
- Rapid Shot (yes you also get Flurry - but this is required for pre-requisites later on or with armor).
- Weapon Focus (Longbow)
- Point-blank Master
- +3 bonus to all saves
= +10' movement

It also gives you the option of taking the Oath of Vengeance archetype (which doesn't stack with Divine Hunter due to both replacing Aura of Justice)... The Oath of Vengeance gives great synergy with your build idea because it lets you convert all those bonus lay on hands in to smites!

An of course now you can close quarters fight with either unarmed strikes or your bow.

The downside is it costs you 1 BAB.

Just a thought.

Divine bond is not tied to a specific weapon. The problem(for lack of a better word), is that he wants to focus on sniping. If he were doing a tradition full attack archery build this would be a lot easier

A paladin is already full BAB, and does not need too much of str bonus to be competent in melee if someone gets that close to him.

My honest advice would be just dump the ranger levels. I hate to say that as it seems like a troll or jerk thing to do but I can't advise differently. You greatest strength as a half elf paladin is those lay of hands being extra quality but bringing the ranger is stripping away the quality of your best feature.

You could easily be a cleric what your aiming for ,especially feat wise, even easier than ranger. A crusader Cleric still gets weapon focus and such while have channeling, better spells, and a domain. The only 100% certain advantage you have is your lay of hands as a swift over the cleric. An inquisitor would suffer some but he would be comparable to your mix in battle and far better in skills.

And if I may add, even for an archer paladin that con is low. With a con of 10 and no extra HP from other sources your completely dependent on Lady Luck on health rolls or you trading in your lay of hands on yourself when it goes bad. Even a con 12, toughness feat, or anything would be a big help.

For comparison.... If you rolled a 10 on health roll every time you get 10 HP per level. If you roll a 1 every time you get 1 HP. If you rolled average of 5.5 round up to 6.If a D8 class with con 12 rolls their max every time they get 9 HP. They roll a 1 they get 2. Roll 4.5 rounded (their average) they get a 6. In other words unless you roll a 9 or 10 on health roll a non paladin is probably the same health as you, maybe higher if he used class bonus to health. Conclusion: lay of hands only advantage you got.
