Placeholder for the announcement of a new, web-based Unofficial PFO EE Atlas which will have multiple data layers and clickable hexes to display information. Should be live by Thursday, November 20, 2014.

VERY excited about this! I've had the pleasure of seeing a sneak peek of this Atlas and I have to say that it is AMAZING.

Can't wait! Nice work Harad!

I am proud to be associated with you, Harad :)

Nice some info on the various hexes.

Will it also cover resources found in said hexes?

Goblin Squad Member

That is the plan, long-term of course.

Thank you! Looks solid.

Maybe a Coordinate layer, Settlement Type layer(looks like you plan on names), a political layer, a transition hex/elevation layer, a Hex Type Layer, and perhaps a escalation/ruin/home hex layer.

Goblin Squad Member

The settlement maps need the commoner and expert trainers added. Also, perhaps a north-pointing arrow next to the settlement names, since while all settlements of a particular type have the same layout, they don't seem to have the same orientation.

Goblin Squad Member

cool man I can even see the GRASS!

Goblin Squad Member

Same excellent quality as always!

Agree with Cheatle that coordinates would be great (how would you like to be the guy that taught GW how to navigate their own map?)

instead of SatNav we'd use the HarNav...

and best of luck with the Diviners. I'm sure you can outsource quite a bit of work to Brighthaven as well.

These are the maps the devs gave us a bit ago so they might need a little updating.

I am working of new maps for each settlement which are properly orientated with North at the top. These will also be able to be revised after the Great Catastrophe and when players build new structures. A settlement layer is in the works with a link in the popup to the originating groups website (if any). The ability to display navigation coordinates is in development. Eventually there will be some zoom shortcuts to specific locations. I hope to get an updated background map image eventually. I think they are really busy right now with the Alpha 12.1 rollout.

As to the trainer locations, that is at a scale really too small for reasonable display as the settlement maps are not zoomable in themselves (another thing in development).

A thought on the Diviners--when Alignment becomes an issue you could move "up the hill" to Keeper's Pass to still be close to Phaeros, and the goal of the Diviners fits in well with both our Rings of Crystal and Wood. Once we have the ability to have secondary and tertiary companies, Erian would certainly like to join the Diviners as it synchs well with his bardic intentions. I aim for him to be a bard in the original Celtic sense, tying communities together by gathering and sharing information.

Goblin Squad Member

The Seventh Veil encompasses a number of players who want to play as Alignments that are not compatible with a True Neutral Settlement. We've had years to think about how to address this problem. If we're successful enough during Early Enrollment, and have the strength to do so during Open Enrollment, we would like to try to found both a Lawful Good Settlement and a Chaotic Good Settlement. This is not a new problem. For our part, we hope we're successful enough during Early Enrollment - and strong enough at Open Enrollment - to make this a reality.

Goblin Squad Member

I should note, we're certainly not looking to poach Harad! I just see Keeper's Pass as a convenient middle ground for folks that might look to Phaeros for certain needs, but be unable to settle there (The same would be true for Chaotic types looking to Brighthaven). I'll likely be in Phaeros quite a lot myself, given the Rogue and Wizard talents best match my bard concept at present.

Extremely impressive. Thank you, Harad Navar, for carrying on the legacy of Muse (of EQ Atlas) and many others who have mapped various MMOs through the years.

You can now turn GW hex coordinates on and off (on by default).

Thanks. I didn't notice, and in the future I will test before posting.

We are keeping the starter towns for early EE, but moving some of them. Ossian's Crossing is moving out west and south, while Kindleburn is moving south.

Long term we are going to phase out the starter towns as they exist now. We're primarily keeping them in now to spread out players in the initial surge of release to avoid server issues. Once that dies down we're going to build some camps in the hexes around Thornkeep that have all the tutorial content set up in them (but without a whole town to have to navigate), and then point you to Thornkeep once you complete the tutorial. Fort Inevitable and Fort Riverwatch will eventually have something similar.

Just as a heads up. :)

Thanks for the heads up

Thanks

Looks like the western third don't have tower s in when the tower option is turned on.

Goblin Squad Member

I only got a limited number of towers in the first collection (when they were all listed in the /companysearch results window. DeciusBrutus gave me a list of the coordinates of all those that were captured. The towers layer will be updated soon (but not before Monday after Thanksgiving I think).

Settlement layer added with links to founding group website (where applicable).
Please contact me if links are incorrect.

I'm not completely sure I got all of them, by the way.

Goblin Squad Member

On a slightly related note, does anyone have the link to the map that shows training with the attractive little icons for the settlements?

Is Duffy's map the one you're thinking of?

Goblin Squad Member

Nope. I think it was Cheatle working with one or two others.

Harad, what should we do if we are interested in contributing data, i.e. towers, shrines, etc.

No problem. I have enough coordinates now to fill in the blanks. They do have a regular pattern. I will wipe the data on who captured what when we start EE, anyway. Working on ways for settlement leaders to update their own settlement data. Honor system? We'll see.

bump....

Goblin Squad Member

I will be updating the shrine data within a few days, and I will be catching up on the data submitted by others for shrine locations. If you have any, PM me. I believe that I can now locate all the towers, but not the capture data for them. I estimate that there may be 2.5 times the number of shrines relative to towers (which will be disappearing after the Great Catastrophe in any event). I suspect that there are 3 or 4 times the shrine numbers for potential locations for basecamps, PoI's and major monster escalation sites. There is great opportunity to contribute to the mapping effort.

Goblin Squad Member

Version 0.e of the Unofficial PFO Atlas is live.
Added data to shrine layer and revised the concept of the Diviners.
As you can see we need more shrine locations.

Goblin Squad Member

Settlements were moved in the last patch. Kindleburn certainly, i think some of the others too. The in-game map has all the current settlement and tower locations.

Goblin Squad Member

Added note to home tab about graphics not being current. Tower data layer is the next on the list to correct.

Harad, please see this soon-to-be-a-thread and consider developing a google spreadsheet with specs for how you'd like data reported.

Goblin Squad Member

A good thought. I want to get the tower data layer reworked first. That will bring the worldmap to as good as I can get with what I have. I will look at the specs before I tackle the next new data layer (unless Bonny of Ryan can get me an updated map graphic for the world map).

Very nice! I have been checking the boards/forums often, but most of us Forgeholmers are standing by for EE. If you come up with a method of sending you data on shrines, gathering nodes, towers, etc, please post it. It would give us a meaningful contribution before the wipe (which is why we are not investing our time now. Keeping our game time accounts full until time for a withdrawal.

This is still Alpha. Time used now is not being charged against our accounts. We will be given a couple of days notice before we are entering EE and being charged for time used.

(edit: I'm betting I misunderstood, and you were actually talking about the time out of your lives that is put into gaming, in which case you can safely ignore my attempt to clarify.)

You will not be charged for Game Time UNTIL EE starts,

So gather the Data Now, while game time is free.

I am working on a way to log information directly through a form on the PFOgis website. Still a work in progress, second after getting a coordinate display for where the pointer is, and a building layer.

Goblin Squad Member

For shrines I need the coordinate from the mini-map when you are standing directly next to the shrine (i.e., blocking forward movement).

Harad Navar wrote:

Here's a bunch of coordinates from today's excursion to the western map border:

Shrine positions:
12.95km S, 12.23km W of TK
12.74km S, 12.59km W of TK
11.21km S, 12.65km W of TK
9.23km S, 12.63km W of TK
8.92km S, 11.99km W of TK
8.06km S, 12.65km W of TK
7.71km S, 12.60km W of TK
6.54km S, 12.76km W of TK
5.88km S, 12.67km W of TK
3.96km S, 12.66km W of TK
3.24km S, 12.69km W of TK
3.27km S, 12.72km W of TK
3.31km S, 12.67km W of TK (resurrected here repeatedly after death in this hex; no actual shrine nearby, closer to the tower than to the two shrines in this hex, likely a bug...)
2.57km S, 12.58km W of TK
2.04km S, 12.68km W of TK
2.66km S; 11.59km W of TK
3.98km S, 11.55km W of TK
4.91km S, 11.97km W of TK
6.26km S, 11.04km W of TK
6.55km S, 10.62km W of TK
6.74km S, 10.30km W of TK
8.61km S, 10.37km W of TK
8.93km S, 10.64km W of TK
9.37km S, 12.09km W of TK
9.99km S, 10.31km W of TK
11.05km S, 10.83km W of TK
11.07km S, 10.88km W of TK
0.02km N, 12.71km W of TK

Tower positions (standing in front of door):
8.01km S, 12.72km W of TK
5.62km S, 12.10km W of TK
3.34km S, 12.69km W of TK
6.69km S, 10.37km W of TK
7.36km S, 10.35km W of TK
7.98mk S, 10.37km W of TK
8.66km S, 10.43km W of TK
11.02km S, 10.95km W of TK

Also, the area where the future evil starter town will be as well as its surrounding hexes are currently blocked off by an "end-of-map-wall" and are inaccessible, thus providing a significant "road block" in the south west. The hexes are: -15.15, -15.16, -15.17, -14.15, -14.16, -14.17, -14.18, -13.15, -13.16, -13.17, -12.16, -12.17
These should probably be greyed out on the map.
