Getting Material Published

Homebrew and House Rules

Hello, messageboards! So I've been working on a good deal of homebrew content that my friends and I have been using in our pathfinder games for about three years now, and I've decided its time I try and get it out there where other people can see and use it. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to start. I see lots of 3rd party content on the SRD, DrivethroughRPG, and other sites, but I've got no idea how to get it there. I've tried contacting a few people, but I've had no responses.

If anyone here knows how one goes about getting material published and out there, I would be deeply appreciative. I've got full rewrites of the Monk, Fighter, and Rogue classes, as well as a 50+ page document detailing my take on the Warlock class, inspired by a blend of the warlocks from 3.5 and 4e. I'm also working on a book of custom races, as well as a book of blood-magic themed items, feats, spells, and class options (such as a Blood Mage archetype for wizards). I've got lots more than that as well, so I'd really like to start getting my stuff out there; if you've got any ideas, please let me know.

I'd like to thank the entire community in advance for any help I receive; thank you all so much for your time!

You should post this on Compatible Products from other Publishers subforum. There are couple general topics that deal with your questions, and many 3pp designers that will be happy to give you advice.

HERE is a fairly informative thread that touches on many aspects of the perils, pitfalls and possibilities of 3PP. There are a few more, I'll try to hunt them down for you.

*** You need to check out the Pathfinder Compatibility License and register your 3PP in he Compatibility Register. Here is the link to the Compatibility License...

*** As well as the thread in my previous post, here are some other threads of interest:

Section 15 OGL and Exhibit B items

Open Game content Usage question

*** Also make sure you get in touch with Liz Courts at

consignments@paizo.com

You need to pass all products by her so she/Paizo can check their compatibility before they go on sale regardless of where you sell them - d20PFSRDstore, OBS (OneBookShelf - DrivethruRPG/RPGNow) , Paizo or elsewhere.

Liz can also answer any other questions those threads don't.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

And finally HERE in someone else's Warlock thread is some line by line advice which goes like this:

So here's what you need to do:

* Once your PDF is finished, make sure you have all of your OGL Section 15 information in order - essentially this is a list of all works you have used in the creation of your product's text. Check any PDFs or books you have, and look at their Section 15 of the OGL information at the back.

* Come up with a name for your publishing house/business. Make sure you adhere to all applicable business terms and conditions/legals as well.

* Submit your application for the Compatibility License HERE. Once you have done that I think you get access to the Pathfinder Compatible Product Logos.

* If not, contact Liz Courts at consignments@paizo.com and ask her where the Pathfinder Compatible Product logos are downloaded from because I can't remember.
* Place the Pathfinder Compatible Product logo on the cover of your PDF.

* Send your first PDF to Liz Courts at consignments@paizo.com for her to sight and give the OK for Compatibility and to make sure your OGL stuff is in order, logos are correct and visible etc….

* Once given the OK you can then upload the product by following the link Manage Consignments that will appear on the My Account page once your application for the Compatibility license has been accepted.

* It generally takes a few days for Liz to then check the product and place it for sale in the Paizo store.

* Note, once you have uploaded one PDF, you won't need to send her the PDF each time - just upload it as normal using the Manage Consignments link.

Then, look to have your product hosted at:

d20PFSRDStore: email Debra Reyst of d20pfsrd at dreyst@d20pfsrd.com to find out how, or follow the link: HERE

and

DrivethruRPG/RPGNow (also known as OBS and OneBookShelf) - their information page for new publishers can be found...

Ah! Thank you so very, very much! You're the best, a billion times thank you!
I'll get started right away; thank you so much!

Typewryter, I am in exactly the same position and I'm glad I found this post. The advice also looks excellent! I had found the OGL section 15 info but wasn't sure that was the right way to go. Thanks for asking and answering this question.
