Another rollback last night / this morning?

Ok so last night, I logged off at 23h UTC.
Main character in Blackwood Glade.
Brand new character in Blackfeather Keep, I had deleted a character to start this one.

Log on just now.
Main in Marchmont! Never been there at all.
New character created last night missing and old deleted character back.

Ok if there was a rollback I can understand the old character being back and I am frustratingly going to have to start all over again.

On the other hand, why the teleport to Marchmont? This means yet ANOTHER trek back to Hammerfall, it seems as if I am doing this at least every second day now.

Is there ANYTHING I/we can do to help with these because I am getting extremely frustrated with the runs each time.

It was described to me that what is happening is not actually a rollback, but perhaps something even stranger and worse.

Apparently the server creating duplicates of your character. When you log in, there is a chance that you will randomly spawn as one if those duplicates. You play for a whole and then log off. When you relog in, if you spawned in another location, you are not in that duplicate, but perhaps a new one or your original character. When you check your inventory you will notice what you gathered the night before is gone.

It is not really a rollback, it is warping to a duplicate. I have to be honest, I've never heard of a bug like this. I'm betting it is their top priority to fix.

Not sure about duplicates, but I have just checked and ALL my characters are now in Marchmont.

One which I had not touched, apart from a quick log on and off to check encumberance, originally in Hammerfall.
The one that I deleted was also in Hammerfall and is now undeleted and teleported.
I am not going to touch the account for the moment as something might show up if investigated.

I bug reported this, including the fact that when it happened to me after dumping my stuff in the vault at Golgotha I found myself in another settlement with the previously vaulted gear in my inventory. When I got back to Golgotha, the same gear was still in the vault.

So, these synchronization errors (or whatever they are) also allow duping.

Which means it REALLY has to become their number one priority, if it wasn't already.

A duping economy is a nonsense economy and leaves us nothing to fight over.

It's been clarified (a bit) in the Alpha forums, that whether you've been there or not is unrelated. When the desynch (followed by handoff to another server) comes, I think anything that happened since your last saved state is dropped, and the new server picks at random one of the hexes it manages.

If you care, the only available option I can think of is to log out and back in every once-in-a-while, so that there is a new saved state for your equipment. It still won't help your location.

It could be worse. You could have just received a bunch of +2/+3 equipment from the resident crafter before your last crash. I suppose, If you're lucky, it wouldn't just take yours, but desynch them too, and give it back to them.

How many times must a man buy a sword,

before he can call it his own?

Your inventory my friend, is blowing in the wind.

Your inventory is blowing in the wind.

Half the crafting queue done ... other half...?

I begin to get tired of the road from south to Thornkeep and dumping stuff into the vault/AH there ...

I can attest to the duplication. I was actually myself and my doppleganger at the same time, following myself around with a very slight time shift difference: http://crpd.gibbermouth.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Freak2.jpg

I stood on my own head.

Fixed that for you.

It's a good shot of your freaky self, too.

GW know about the duping problem and yes they are looking into it.
It was discussed after the last rollback, where I managed to dupe my entire inventory as I had just emptied all my chars before logging off.
Yes I did report that.

No duplication of characters yet though.

Same here. And teleported to a random hex near Phoenix Pass. At least it's closer to home than my last teleport left me...

Server broke last night. An entire hex had disappeared in the SE. Pretty nasty setback for EE. I honestly thought EE might start this weekend until this happened. So close yet so far away...

Looks like it is happening to a good portion of the players. If there is stress management code that decides and manages server "hand offs", well I think it needs to be ripped out by the spine. Put the game on life support and patch her back up.

It is not a roll back, just stop calling it a roll back...

It is the Server CPU Lubricant, the lubricant reservoir is empty.

It's Marty in the Delorean! He keeps changing the past!

Don't call it a rollback, you've been there for years...

Is that like letting the magic smoke out?

I didn't know the magic smoke theory had survived to these modern days :-).

Actually I am pretty sure that GW have been lubricating the server farm with Dwarven Ale.
(From now on, if someone asks why they are in a different location, my answer is going to be 'Dwarven Ale!')

No, its the muffler bearings

It's those PvP types, they dug under a tower and cut some wires and pipes they were not meant to.

Doesn't seem to work that way. When I gave one of the Keepers Clerics some +2 Yew and Iron and a + 2 hammer I made for him recently it disappeared from both inventories in a crash. It is only vaults that seem to do the duplication thing.

I think duplication requires you to deposit it in the vault, then crash shortly afterword. You end up with one on hand and one in the bank.

Esiyr suggested in game just now that there might be a way to avoid these issues.

Don't use Quit

Instead, use Log Out and then use the X button to close the window.

I haven't verified that this works, but it's certainly worth a try, and just in case it helps, I wanted to share this information as quickly as possible.
