Druid's beast shape

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

Acording to the core rulebook, a Druid can change into an animal form, like in the Beast Shape spell. But does she has the claws, Strength, etc. of the animal?

It works exactly like the Beast Shape spell, but lasts longer. So whatever that version of the spell can give you, you have. So you have any natural attacks that the animal has, and you get the stat changes that the spells says to get.

Grand Lodge

The spell says little about it.

Here you go (can also be found on CRB p211).

Summary:
You gain the natural attacks (claws, bite, etc) but you use your own BAB and ability scores (not the creature's) to determine attack and damage bonuses.

You do not gain the ability scores of the creature. The spell specifies what ability scores are modified.

You do gain the size modifiers to AC, Attack, CMB/CMD, Stealth, and Fly. You do not gain any size modifiers to ability scores (exception: if your natural form is smaller than small or larger than medium you have to 'normalize' before applying the polymorph effects).

You do not gain the natural armor score of the creature. The spell specifies what (if any) natural armor bonus you gain.

You get the creature's special abilities (such as Grab) if the spell says you do.

You get the land movement speed of the creature.
You get the movement modes of the creature if the spell says you do. You get the worst of the two speeds (spell or it's normal speed for the movement mode).

You are not that creature type. You may look like an animal but you are not an animal.

Liberty's Edge

You gain the natural attacks of the limbs of the form you take.

*********

When you cast this spell, you can assume the form of any Small or Medium creature of the animal type. If the form you assume has any of the following abilities, you gain the listed ability: climb 30 feet, fly 30 feet (average maneuverability), swim 30 feet, darkvision 60 feet, low-light vision, and scent.

Small animal: If the form you take is that of a Small animal, you gain a +2 size bonus to your Dexterity and a +1 natural armor bonus.

Medium animal: If the form you take is that of a Medium animal, you gain a +2 size bonus to your Strength and a +2 natural armor bonus.

*****

This is the bast spell. You start off by applying the stat modification listed by the size of the form. Then you check the movement you will have. lastly, check the attack modes. You gain all the normal attacks, then you gain any special attacks specifically listed on the spell you are mimicing. So for beast shape 1 (level 4+), you only have low-light vision and scent. Once you hit 6th level, then you add grab, pounce, and trip to your list of available special abilities. You only gain the ability if it is listed on the statblock.

Liberty's Edge

As said above too, you gain the natural attacks of normal attacks. Do not apply any bonuses that the stat block creature has. All bonuses gained are specifically listed in the spell itself.

Grand Lodge

THanks, real complete answer.

Liberty's Edge

It does kind of stink sometimes, and may need GM intervention, that there are some neat abilities that are unique to a certain creature but are not specifically called out on the spell. Check with your GM on specific special abilities and see if they would be allowed and on what tier of beastshape would it match power level.
