How long to craft?

Rules Questions

In the wondrous item crafting it says "Creating an item requires 8 hours of work per 1,000 gp in the item's base price" is that the base price to buy or the base price to make?

Base price to buy.

There is a way to speed that up, right? I think you can bump up the spellcraft check by something like 5 or 10 to double the amount of work you do in a day? A lvl 20 wizard doesn't need to take a month off to create a +3 sling, right?

One would think that a level 20 Wizard has more important things on his plate.

You can add +5 to the DC to double that speed to 4 hours of work per 1,000 gp. There are a few abilities here and there that can speed it up somewhat, but for the most part really powerful items simply require lots and lots of time.

If you're serious about high-level crafting, I suggest finding a plane in which you can spend a lot of time without much time passing on your home plane. Then find a way to avoid aging, or at least the effects of aging.

If you're adventuring, a Ring of Sustenance could net you extra time to craft while your party is sleeping.

Quote:
If the caster is out adventuring, he can devote 4 hours each day to item creation, although he nets only 2 hours' worth of work. This time is not spent in one continuous period, but rather during lunch, morning preparation, and during watches at night. If time is dedicated to creation, it must be spent in uninterrupted 4-hour blocks.

If you're adventuring, you're only getting 2 hours done a day. A ring of sustenance might let you get another 4 in at night instead of sleeping. For a total of 6.

Also, if you're planning to get spells back in the morning good luck.

Quote:
The wizard does not have to slumber for every minute of the time, but he must refrain from movement, combat, spellcasting, skill use, conversation, or any other fairly demanding physical or mental task during the rest period.
Quote:
A sorcerer or bard needs 8 hours of rest (just like a wizard), after which she spends 15 minutes concentrating. (A bard must sing, recite, or play an instrument of some kind while concentrating.)
Quote:
Spell Selection and Preparation: A divine spellcaster selects and prepares spells ahead of time through prayer and meditation at a particular time of day. The time required to prepare spells is the same as it is for a wizard (1 hour), as is the requirement for a relatively peaceful environment.

The ring also refreshes the body and mind; its wearer needs only sleep 2 hours per day to gain the benefit of 8 hours of sleep. This allows a spellcaster that requires rest to prepare spells to do so after only 2 hours, but this does not allow a spellcaster to prepare spells more than once per day.

The caster needs 2 hours of sleep and then can prepare his spells.

Hah. I forgot the ring specifically called that out. Brain fart moment.

Cooperative Crafting

Your assistance makes item crafting far more efficient.

Prerequisites: 1 rank in any Craft skill, any item creation feat.

Benefit: You can assist another character in crafting mundane and magical items. You must both possess the relevant Craft skill or item creation feat, but either one of you can fulfill any other prerequisites for crafting the item. You provide a +2 circumstance bonus on any Craft or Spellcraft checks related to making an item, and your assistance doubles the gp value of items that can be crafted each day.

1. Is it possible to hire a 1 Level NPC with (Cooperative Crafting, Scribe Scroll and Craft (weapons)), to help you creating a magic Weapon?

2. Or is it possible to hire 10 such NPCs to create almost any magic Weapon in one Day?

oh good question about adding more people. I'm very curious how it stacks if you have two or more people with this feat helping you.

A familiar with the Valet archetype counts as having cooperative crafting and every craft feat you have.

I'd expect having multiple assistants with cooperative crafting would be additive in terms of crafting time rather than each of them doubling the amount that gets done.

1) RAW, you would have to craft it with Craft (weapons), since he does not share the item crafting feat. Crafter's Fortune gives you +5 Craft(x) for 1day/level.

2) The doubling is additive, not multiplicative. I.e. one extra gets x(1+1), two extra get x(1+2), three extra get x(1+3), ..., ten extra get x(1+10). Basically, multiply the limit per day by number of crafters working together. Also, the GM may limit how many can work together. Remember, a familiar has the same ranks as you, and can Aid Another in Craft skills.

The Craft Check to create the weapon could be done by the "main crafter" with Spellcraft. There is no need to boost npc craft(weapon) skill. The "main Crafter" receives a +2 cirumstance bonus.

"Price" almost always refers to the total Market Price. "Cost" almost always refers to the cost to make the item.

The NPC would still need a rank in craft(weapons) or the item creation feat. However, he doesn't actually need to make a check with the skill, simply possess it to provide the +2 circumstance bonus.

Since the hired crafter does not have the feat Craft Magic Arms and Armor, they cannot share the crafting feat with you. That leaves needing to share the Craft(weapons) skill with you. RAW, I suppose as long as you also have that Craft(weapons) skill, then you can use Spellcraft to actally craft it, but RAI, I think you would need to use what you had in common, i.e. the Craft(weapons) skill.

I dont think so because there would be no possibility to boost the spellcraft check.
