Quick question - I'm sure this was asked before actually, but haven't been able to locate the thread.
The Wishing Well location forces you to summon and encounter a pirate haunt if you acquire a boon.
I assume that the summoned card (like all summoned henchmen) does not allow you to attempt to close the location, even though the card carries the standard henchman text re: closing a location.
My common sense/game knowledge would argue that you can't attempt to close the location. Although once I had three haunts on one of my characters (nasty...) I was starting to doubt myself! This is a nasty location!

I think there was juuuust a thread on this the other day. It probably just barely scrolled off the front page!
Like all summoned henchmen you're right, they don't let you close the location because they don't come FROM that location. However, something you might be missing is there's nothing about the Wishing Well that says you HAVE to acquire a boon. Unless I'm mistaken, the text says "you automatically succeed as YOUR CHECKS to acquire boons," not you automatically ACQUIRE boons," so you can opt out of anything you don't want. And if you got three things you -did- want there for free, then I'd just consider that fair punishment for your amazing luck. :D

You can't attempt to close. Notice the henchman text in this case has been updated to say "the location this henchman came from." And when it is summoned, it didn't come from a location.
I think all the henchmen that could potentially get summoned, have that update. Some henchmen don't (like Aretta Bansion), but I think all the summoned ones do.

Your assumption is correct - you can't close the location after summoning a Pirate Haunt. Note that the text says "the location it came from," which in this case is the box. Maybe some other scenario will have Pirate Haunts starting in the location deck.
When we played this, Alhazra just plowed through the location, taking all the boons and haunts. Other characters dealt with a couple of banes she foretold and couldn't handle. Fortunately, after closing the location you can banish all the haunts. Unfortunately, the henchmen were all buried deep and we weren't aggressive enough in exploring so we ran out of time with one location left (Alhazra scouted the dragon and left him there).
Edit: wow, double ninja'ed! It's like I got spyware on my computer so it tells Hawkmoon et al when I'm making a post ;)

Thanks for confirming guys.
Actually Dave's comment is probably highlighting my mistaken assumption - as I was reading the location text as I *had* to take the boon as I automatically succeeded the check. Good to know that I can still opt out and banish items I don't want; makes the reward/punishment a little more bearable! (It was acquiring all the haunts that was making me wonder if I should have been able to close the location.)
