Can a Warpriest's use Magic Weapon as a Fervor quickened spell?

As a swift action, a warpriest can expend one use of this ability to cast any one warpriest spell he has prepared. When cast in this way, the spell can target only the warpriest, even if it could normally affect other or multiple targets.

Magic Weapon's target line is

Quote:
weapon touched

Does this mean a Warpriest can't use this spell as a swift action, even on his own weapon? This doesn't seem to be intended.

Question also applies to Reinforce Armaments, Sun Metal, Weapons Against Evil, Align Weapon, Instrument of Agony, Returning Weapon and Weapon of Awe just for level 1/2 spells native to the Warpriest list

Also of note is Shillelagh (while note on the Warpriest list, can be added to it a few ways) which has the clause

Quote:
These effects only occur when the weapon is wielded by you. If you do not wield it, the weapon behaves as if unaffected by this spell.

If the Warpriest has Improved Unarmed Strike, sure.

That's actually a property of Monk levels, not Improved Unarmed Strike, but a very good question either way.

Can a Warpriest with a levels in Monk cast spells that target weapons (such as Magic Weapon) using Fervor if they target his Unarmed Strike?

Would it also work with a natural attack with Feral Combat Training (under the "effects that augment an Unarmed Strike" clause)?

Sczarni

I wouldn't have said so before the FAQ, but now, I guess it works.

Sovereign Court

To which FAQ are you referring?

Shadow Lodge

I was curious too. There is no ACG FAQ that I can see, and nothing really jumped out for Magic Weapon.

Sczarni

If I'm not quoting somebody, assume I'm replying to the comment (or chain of comments) right before (above) mine.

In this case, I was replying to the comment about Feral Combat Training.

Shadow Lodge

Rereading it, still sounds like you are referring to a FAQ about the Warpriest/ACG or Unarmed Strike interacting with Magic Weapon/other abilities.

Is this better?

I'm going to come down on the side that it is exactly as intended as the WarPriest already has swift action weapon and armor buffs in their Sacred Weapon/Armor class feature. The Paizo folks contrary to some opinion DO give considerable thought to every class feature they give, if they intended the ferver ability to cover weapon and armor buffs they would have not restricted it to spells that applied directly to the caster.

Home GM's of course are free to rule otherwise.

*sighs heavily*

I really don't know why I'm playing this game with you.
