Thinking about a new campaign

Advice

And the way I usually do that is I start statting up the characters of popularity in the world. So what do you guys think of a Lich 20 Arcanist/20 Oracle of Life 20/Mystic Theurge 10. I'm just wanting to get some feedback, as I would have him be one of the 12 individuals that players would have an idea about, but not specifics.

And literally, he could be one of those individuals, who literally handles things by proxy now.

Why do you need specific stats for this uber NPC? Just say the NPC has godlike power, and you are done.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Level 50 is for pansies. NPCs aren't even worth their salt until they hit 70 or so.

But seriously, why on earth would you ever need that many levels?

Try the mythic book.

If I were a god-like NPC I would be so bored I'd try to see how long I could pretend to be lawful good while creating an underworld empire of that has quasi extra-dimensional properties. Oh can you heroes help me? My ancestors crypt has been flooded with skeletons. Basically training living creatures using undead until they make for formidable undead allies.

Just because I recently bought Hero Labs and a lot of friends from Illinois liked to stat up level 70 monsters on their own time. I figure why not make the godlike beings or the movers and shakers that were still around from an aeon ago.

Then do the work and start building the continent for gaming purposes, putting large mythic wells here or there. Lay down the resources and the cities and terrain, etc. I kinda just like to do that sort of thing. Do I expect te players to ever deal with this person directly? No. Maybe after a few campaigns they might get a clue, but really, no.
Maybe he would get bored and leave for the planes or maybe he would leave some 25CR minions around.

Mainly because I never have started to build an NPC cast before I started running. I always used to start with a situation for the characters and build from there. I admit, this sounds very munchkiny, but I was absolutely serious when I said I was building my own campaign.

A lot of us love the sandboxes others make for us and damn, some are really good. But it had been forever since I dug out my own and I just built a few landforms on Hexographer. Once I did that I started thinking about 'who' would love to be in power there. And then let the rest flow downward.
