believer's hands progression

If you pick up believers hands out of the advanced class guide level 1 at what level do you get an extra die for you lay on hands?
I think it's level 8. Though i hope I'm wrong.
The feat claims that your effective paladin level for it is 1/2 your character level.

A paladin healds 1d6 per 2 levels.

So someone with Believers hands heals 1d6 per 4 levels.

So yes, you don't reach 2d6 until level 8.

Oh well the price to pay for being a poor mans paladin.
I can still pick up extra lay on hands and use it more.
That's something i guess.

wait, doesnt it start at 1d6? then doesnt it go up at level 3, since 2 levels later is level 3.

so by that, wouldnt believers hand start at 1d6 and go up every 4 levels for 2d6 at level 5(then 9, then 13, then 17... not 8 for 1d6, then 3d6 at 12 or 16...).
