Favoured Enemy: Shapechanger / Lycanthrope / Werewolf?

Quick question - if a Ranger wants to select Lycanthropes as a favoured enemy, can he?

Lycanthrope is a template so I don't know if it's a legal choice...

Shapechanger would be a nice choice as it wouldn't be limited to one specific subtype like Werewolves or Wererats, but would cover all of the lycanthropes (afflicted or natural) and any of the other shapechangers (presumably).

Or would I have to select a specific subtype of shapechanger/lycanthrope, such as "Werewolf"?

Thanks for the help.

My guess would be you'd have to choose Humanoid (Shapechanger) as the subtype, similar to how you have to choose Humanoid (Elf) or Outsider (Water).

That means it would cover all your Lycanthropes (I believe), but wouldn't cover things like Rakshasa's, which are Outsiders (Shapechanger).

That's what I was thinking... And if it is Humanoid (Shapechanger) it would also include Kitsunes right?

Not that I expect to encounter hordes of evil Kitsunes or anything...

Yes, kitsune have the subtype shape changer.

Strangely enough, doppelgängers have the type Monsterous Humanoid with subtype shapechanger.

I wonder if there is some way to get both...

For Monstrous Humanoid, you don't need a sub-type. There is no obvious way to get all shapechangers as a favored enemy for one pick at this point.
