Aasimar vs Half-Celestial

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Is it just me, or does the Half-Celestial Template make the Aasimar Race obsolete? It just seems to me that the HC would provide you with a much more celestial feel than the Aasimar. I won't even go into the Class Abilities provided by one over the other.

But half celestial takes two class levels.

Is there a way to officially let PCs take templates in Pathfinder, now?

If your DM let's you take a template then feel free to go for it. Many DM's wouldn't even consider it though.

I still think the HC give you SO much. Especially if your character is not a paladin.

Half Celestrial?

Try finding out your Aasimar's mother is Iomedae.

Spoiler:

Wotr: if your character takes the divine trait, he is the child of a god.

Most DMs don't allow templates on PCs so in most cases it's not an issue.

You mean like a Divine Scion (aka a mythic character descended from a god)? I honestly didn't know that a simple trait could make you the child of a god! What else does this vaulted trait do?

Bers, why did you purposefully break the spoiler box?

Half-Celestial is not taken by PCs all that often, unless your DM is very liberal with templates. Aasimar is often the only way to get a Celestial-esque character.

Class abilities are normally better than what a template gives assuming the GM counts them as virtual class levels.

Half-Celestial is better, but costs 2-3 levels.

No it doesn't, because unless I'm running a particular type of high powered campaign, I wouldn't allow such a stupidly broken template.
