While I am always on board with allowing more choices I am curious when some are taken away.
Was there a specific reason why the races were banned? Too complex for new players? Bringing value back to old racial boons/certs? Limitation on how many alternate races at one time? The old books were not selling anymore?
And what determined the introduction of these previously boon-only races?
New race books?
From a financial standpoint the tipping point for my purchase of Blood of Fiends and Blood of Angels was because there were finally allowed into organized play. Granted I hardly play them as I am a humanist :)
Just curious.

There is also an in-game reason that aasimar and tieflings are no longer freely available... Season 5 was the season of the demon, where adventurers were going to the worldwound often and fighting demons. It makes sense that tieflings would be more readily available in that area of the world, and that aasimar might gravitate toward fighting them. Now, we're moving away from the Worldwound and into Numeria, so we get different options. (I'm betting that there will be an Android race boon at some point during this year, and a boon that allows the new Nanite bloodline to be used as well.)

The AR page is updated more often than the guide to organised play.
What is logical since every month several new products come out most of which get at least partly sanctioned. Imagine the rage if that page would get updated only once a year like the guide to organzied play ;)

@Nefreet: Last game I played, there was only 1 human... followed with 2 elves, 2 half-orcs, and a druid. The ratio is even less if you count the druid's tiger, the half-orc dog companion, and the elf magi's faerie dragon :)
However, I do understand that aasimar/tiefling ratios are quite varied by region (and I do admit, I have one of each as well).

Mainly to avoid PFS from becoming a zoo is what I understand. Since they are opening up new races, they are taking away some old
Actually it was mainly to avoid having PFS become a campaign where Asimars and Teiflings become the dominant races. I personally felt that they never should have been opened up beyond boons, especially when that ruling about SLAs came out.

Indeed. Hence why my statement was open-ended. Regional variance will factor into that a lot.
But, back in July there was an informal poll of what races players had characters of. Although it was informal, and posted online, it's still the closest calculation we have to the numbers of each race that are out there.
And I think it was telling information.

So, when did Druid become a race, instead of a class?
1 Human2 Elves
2 Half-Orcs
1 Druid
Um, yeah.

It was to balance Dwarves becoming a race.

I think doyles species is now officially bat, considering he hasn't had two legs since level 7.
