t-rex mount

Rules Questions

I don't understand how to get a t-rex mount by the rules. Can someone explain it to me?

Are you trying to make it a mount under the Cavalier term of mount? or just riding it like a normal horse mount?

Both explanations would be good. It seems like any class I look at, including cavalier, it says to treat your level as druid level, but the list of companions available to a druid doesn't have the t-rex on it, so I'm lost as to how people are getting it this way. But honestly, I think I'd rather get access to one without being glued to a class if possible

here's the link for T-rex animal companions

if you don't have have it as an animal companion you'd do the same thing as buying a horse and using it as a mount.

So they don't get any stronger after level 7? I dont mind them only advancing to huge at all but it kinda sucks if they never get swallow whole. Thanks for the link btw:)

The largest a companion can get, besides with the increase from the Mammoth Lord, is a large. And they do increase in strength through the animal companion class feature, like better natural armor, more feats, tricks, skill points, etc. Sure a creature size is stunted from the animal companion rules, but they get more than enough extra things from the class to compensate.

Well, at some point in size it would become very difficult for them to function as a mount.

But you could always try to find a T-Rex and train it using handle animal as a mount. Then you just use the creature stats for a T-Rex with all of it's abilities and size.

Agreed. A gargantuan one is too big. A Huge one would be pretty sweet though. And its a shame they dont get swallow whole

You could even be a summoner and "shape" your eidolon to be as close to a t-rex as it can. This could give you more space for customization

T-Rex mount vs Trike mount

lol, awesome

As to your question, I have to ask what you mean by mount. Do you mean something that you ride on, or the actual mount class feature for a cavalier or paladin?

If you want the mount mount, the Beast rider cavalier archetype will let you do that.

If you want to ride it, the beastmaster ranger, or any druid can select one as an animal companion and hop on it.

It does get stronger after level 7. Animal companions can be a little tricky. MOST of how they grow is on the chart in the druid section. THey gain more HD, base attack bonus, strength, dex, natural armor, special abilities and feats based on that. At 7th level they ALSO have a big jump in power, gaining size and strength.

If all you have is gold and the DM is feeling nice, the animal archive has rules for buying a combat trained one strait out of the bestiary.

Flag it and move on. Even if you feel you're being baited, even if you feel someone else started it. Just flag it and move on. Adding to the grar just fills the boards up with more grar, it does nothing to help the boards stay a fun and welcoming place, which is the goal.

I could buy one stock I suppose, but gargantuan is super unwieldy, plus you couldn't afford it at early levels. I guess I'm wondering if there's a way to get one right away and then advance it to huge and give it swallow whole later on.

If that's not possible then my next question would be, can I buy a huge one with swallow whole, and if so, how much would it cost.

Thanx Chess. The address didn't work but I was able to navigate my way there by looking at it. Here is a working link if anyone else should ever read this and be interested.

How would I go about getting it as a huge creature though? Reduce animal would make it huge but its not on the list of spells that qualify for permanency.

Ahhhh dang it. I just realized reduce animal only works on small, medium, large, and huge animals anyway. Back to the drawing board. Anyone else have an idea? Goal is a huge t-rex with swallow whole

Edit: I'm starting to wonder if this should be in the advice thread

Find a baby T-rex. One with the young template.

And probably Advice is better than rules for this.
