How to find a character artist

Gamer Life General Discussion

I'm looking for an artist to draw my character. I'm willing to pay a commission. However, I have no idea how to go about looking for an artist. Any suggestions?

Scarab Sages

Deviant Art is probably your best bet. Try to find someone whose style you like that does commissions and go from there. I know I've had commission work come in that way.

Do you have any advice for navigating around Deviantart? I've not done much with that site.

What do you want as far as the character goes? I may be able to help you.

My wife and my page

The Exchange

There is a thread here on Paizo where amateur (awesome) artists would draw people's requests just to brush up on their art....It has been resurrected a few times and posting a query would probably get some of the old people back in and draw in some new. Can't hurt to try anyway...
Linky to old "Draw my PC" thread!

Scarab Sages

This may help: a couple of pathfinder groups on DA
Pathfinder Art
Chars of Pathfinder

So, here's the character I have in mind.

March Raton grew up a fisherman in the swamp, and became a sailor on a privateer to meet the Fishermen's Guild's duty to the crown. With his wily, disarming demeanor and a method for enthralling people with his stories, March became the boatswain for the vessel, and a bard. His life took a turn for the worse when he claimed a cursed dagger as his own, and slowly had his life ebb from him, while he tried to unlock the dark powers the dagger contained. Despite the scarring on his soul, he actually managed to unlock the powers of the dagger. It turns out that he could do it, though, because he comes from a long line of witches from the deep recesses of the swamp. He's started to follow down the path of the witch, just as his crew were branded pirates.

March is human, about 5'8", and has grown skinny after his brush with the dark dagger. His skin is swarthy to dark, his eyes a dark brown, and his hair and scraggly beard are black--except for a single lock of shock-white hair on his head. He regularly ties his hair back with a leather thong. Although he is young, about 26, he is an odd combination of youthful curiosity and crotchety otherworldly-weariness. He normally wears a loose tunic and breeches, and since he lives at sea, spends a lot of time sopping wet. On his lapel he carries his prize possession--a fish lure, a fly tied from a lock of fair-brown-with-hints-of-strawberry hair.

He often wears a suit of leather armor, found from a ruined temple. The leather armor has intricate scaling, designed to look like blue feathers. His main weapon is a longsword with a red grip and a clear cage-like pommel in the shape of a lantern. His familiar is a celestial osprey he named Matilda, after the girlfriend he lost in a fight against sahuagin. He also uses a whip regularly. His magical style is a cross between American tall tale and voodoo.

Any thoughts? Questions?
