An issue has come up in one of my campaigns. A friend of mine is wanting to use some material we are playtesting for our 3PP in a campaign. Will Paizo own rights to the classes or archetypes if he just uses it on the messageboards? I would hope this isn't the case.

Why not keep it in a google doc or post it on a personal website and just use links to it on the message board?
She's posting that for me. We were just wondering if it would still be considered Paizo property even if included on the alias.
I really suggest you look at the link I provided to the FAQ. It does answer your question.

Users posting messages to the site automatically grant Paizo
Publishing the royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, nonexclusive right
and license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate,
sublicense, copy and distribute such messages throughout the
world in any media.

You give paizo free run to publish your stuff if they so choose with out having to pay you or give you credit. If you use a google doc link it saves you headaches. And gives you control of information. However there is nothing preventing someone taking your idea and running with it before you finish either, if you make it open.
I guess I could always retrain my character once we get the book out lol.
